Rodney King Dead, Cynthia Kelley Reports Death Cause as Drowning
LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Rodney King is dead at 47. Cynthia Kelley (photos below) reported Rodney King’s cause of death as a possible swimming pool drowning. Cynthia Kelley was a Rodney King juror in his civil dispute. In 2010, LALATE reported news that Kelley and King had secretly began dating after the conclusion of his civil trial but then reunited this decade. The two were set to marry.
Rodney King was found dead by Cynthia Kelley inside a Rialto swimming pool today June 17, 2012. TMZ reports that a telephone call was made from King’s Rialto home shortly after 5:25 am. King was pronounced dead at 6:11 am. No official statement has been made to news yet by King’s family.

Reports claim that the 911 call was made by Kelley. The deceased King was found by fiancée Kelley. King was reportedly at the bottom of the Rialto pool. Officials have yet to indicate if the cause of death was an accidental drowning.

Cynthia Kelley first became known as juror number 5 in King’s own civil dispute. Kelley was the only African American juror. In September 2010, the two told news that they had their first date just hours after Kelley and her jury awarded King $3.8 million.
Kelly says she joined King and his attorney for pizza in Newport Beach the day after the trial was over. Both were married at the time. She additionally added the two kept their relationship quiet all those years due to expected backlash. She said that other jurors initially didn’t want to give King more than $100,000 because, as she claimed, they said “he’s just gonna blow it anyway.”
The couple would eventually drift apart.Years later, the two reunited. But for nearly two decades, Cynthia Kelley and Rodney King had kept their first date and their relationship secret. “It was like we were never apart from one another” she said after their reunited.
