Westwood Hills Christian Church Arson Fire Suspect Sought

WESTWOOD (LALATE) – A Westwood Hills Christian Church arson suspect is being sought. Officials believe an arson fire was set against the 61 year old Westwood church on Le Conte last night.
The fire was quickly put out. But officials tell news that as much as $5000 in damage was done to the local church. The church has sat near the UCLA campus on Le Conte for six decades. But shortly after 9 pm last night, officials received calls of a fire erupting inside the church’s sanctuary.
Officials have yet to indicate to news how the arson was set. But they are asking the public’s assistance. The Los Angeles Fire Department’s Arson/Counter-Terrorism section at (213) 893-9800 is handling the matter.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humprey tells news that the fire was set deliberately moments before reports of the blaze. Officials believe the suspect is still in Southern California.
In a news statement, Humprey said “An act of arson in a house of worship is a particularly repugnant crime. The activation of the regional House of Worship Arson Task Force underscores the importance to our community as a whole, in quickly apprehending those responsible for this crime.”
