University of Alberta Shooting at HUB Mall Prompts Lockdown

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A University of Alberta shooting at HUB Mall prompted a lockdown today. Three people are dead following a shooting at the University of Alberta in Edmonton this morning Friday June 15, 2012. The shooter is still at large, a manhunt is underway, and no suspect has been named to news.
The University of Alberta’s HUB Mall erupted into gunfire this morning after an attempted robbery. Three people were reportedly dead at the scene, one person is in critical condition.
Gunfire began shortly after midnight, officials tell news. The deceased were discovered by workers for Safewalk, an on-campus volunteer organization which assists students walking on campus in the evening.
Shortly after the shooting, University of Alberta officials put that section of campus on lockdown. HUB Mall was later cleared. Officials are not confirming yet to news if the shooter acted along. “It was an apparent armed robbery of armored vehicle and or vehicles,” said police spokesman Scott Pattison in a news statement moments ago. “The university was quickly put into lockdown, it has its own protocols and it remains in lockdown now. It’s a crime scene so students are required to stay remain in their dorms.”
The victims were reportedly not students, but employees of an armored vehicle company.
