Man Eating Face in Miami: Cannibal’s Purple Caprice Provides Clues
CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The man eating face attack in Miami might be solved with clues from a purple Caprice. New updates in the man eating face investigation today point to two new clues: inconsistent statements by the cannibal attacker and conflicting reports about his purple Caprice. When news first broke about the Miami cannibalism, a series of erroneous statements were offered, not just by local news, but also by the attacker’s family. Today, new clues reveal that, before his attack, Rudy Eugene was not forthcoming to his own girlfriend about his Saturday Miami plans. And when his Chevy Caprice broke down, Eugene left further clues that something was very wrong.
The night before his Miami cannibalism attack, Rudy Eugene was at home, sleeping peacefully alongside his girlfriend, officials confirm to news. Eugene lived with his girlfriend in Miami Gardens. Eugene had lost his own home in a foreclosure. But he was never homeless. Eugene had prior arrests. In one case, his mother told police that that Eugene threatened to kill her.
In the days before the attack, Eugene was for the first time purportedly carrying around the Bible, witnesses tell news. When friends went to social gatherings like seeing a movie, Eugene allegedly was texting them Bible verses.
Last weekend, the community hosted Urban Beach Week. That Saturday morning, Eugene decided to leave his home at an unusually early hour, his girlfriend tells news. But when Eugene left, he walked out the door holding a Bible.
Eugene told his girlfriend that he was not going to Urban Beach Week. In a news interview, she asserts that Eugene told her he was avoiding Urban Beach Week because he didn’t want to be arrested again. When Eugene exited the house early, he allegedly told his girlfriend he would be back soon.
Eugene’s brother, however, tells a far different story to news. He says that Rudy Eugene left the house Saturday morning to, in fact, go to Urban Beach Week.
When, Rudy Eugene left that morning, he had a home, a car, a cell phone, and a full set of clothes on. Eight hours later, Rudy Eugene was allegedly exhibiting super strength, was wandering the streets of Miami, had abandoned his car, tossed his cell phone, had removed all his clothes, and would soon eat ninety percent of a homeless man’s face, alive, in front of Miami traffic.

What happened to Rudy Eugene in just eight hours? One key for investigators could be Eugene’s final words. After Eugene drove away in his Caprice at 5:30 am on Saturday, the car broke down. At 6:30 am, Eugene called his girlfriend to report that the car was not drivable. He said he would call her right back.
But that’s not how witnesses describe the situation. Police tell news that Eugene didn’t attempt to rectify his car troubles. He didn’t call his girlfriend back. Rather Eugene allegedly abandoned the car, leaving it outside a business, even blocking the business’ exit. Cheryl Seichrist, the business office manager for the Miami Ad School, tells CBS News that Eugene left the car blocking the exit path for her business.
CBS News claims that, after the car didn’t start, Eugene didn’t stay with his purple Caprice. Rather he allegedly walked back to the mainland across the MacArthur Causeway where the cannibalism would begin.
What happened between 6:30 am and 1:54 PM? The head of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, Armando Aguilar, tells news that Eugene, in that period of time, allegedly removed all of his clothes, and discarded all his belongings including the cell phone. Eugene allegedly did this as he walked from Miami Beach to the mainland, over the MacArthur Causeway, Aguilar tells news.
Eugene finally reached the MacArthur Causeway at 1:54 PM. When the unclothed Eugene approached the Causeway, he reportedly heckled one person sitting on the off-ramp. He then approached a second person, Ronald Poppo, a 65 year old homeless man.
Officials tell news that Poppo had been homeless for thirty years. Poppo, before his cannibalism attack, had lived on top of the Jungle Island zoo’s parking garage.
Initially, Eugene lunged for Poppo’s clothes, ripping them off. Within minutes, Eugene begins to attack Poppo. The attack continued as Eugene reportedly dragged Poppo along the sidewalk. The next eighteen minutes between Eugene and Poppo is recorded by surveillance video. During the cannibalism attack in broad daylight, four bicyclists and countless motorists passed bye and never stopped to aid Poppo. Several 911 calls were made.
Larry Vega, however, tried his best to stop the cannibalism attack. Vega tells news that Eugene proceeded to eat Poppo’s face, consuming upward of ninety percent of Poppo’s face in front of Miami motorists. Vega shouted at Eugene to stop. But Eugene “just stood, his head up like that, with pieces of flesh in his mouth. And he growled.”
The attack has left Eugene’s family perplexed. His mother tells CBS “He was a good kid. He gave me a nice card on Mother’s Day. Everyone says he was a Zombie. He was no Zombie. That was my son.” The mother also tells news that she believes her son was the victim, not Poppo.
Eugene’s girlfriend tells news “Rudy Eugene was not no zombie or ‘Miami Zombie’ like they’re saying.” At roughly 2:11 p.m., officers arrived on scene. Officer Rivera allegedly fired one gunshot at Eugene at it didn’t kill him. Rivera allegedly had to fire multiple shots until the 31 year was killed. Eugene’s mother denounced the response by officers. “The police don’t have to shoot him. They could have tasered him.”
Toxicology tests on Eugene are expected to take weeks. Poppo remains in critical condition. During the attack, Poppo lost virtually his entire face down to his beard. Police have yet to indicate to news if Poppo has family members. For more updates, click HERE.
