CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The man eating face attacker in Miami Saturday turned into a cannibal because of a Vodou curse, so claims his girlfriend. The man eating face attacker in Miami was last seen by his girlfriend in central Broward Saturday morning. She now tells news that she has only one explanation why her boyfriend left her home and suddenly turned into the Miami Cannibal on Saturday. According to her, he was given a secret Vodou curse.
Details of the man eating face attacker, Rudy Eugene, have gotten more peculiar by the day. Bath salts and Zombie Apocalypse were the bizarre terms dominating reports yesterday. Today, however, it’s a Vodou curse. Rudy Eugene, who has been dubbed everything from the Causeway Zombie to the Miami Cannibal has yet to undergo toxicology tests, officials tell news. But his attack has left puzzled, not just local news and investigators, but also his girlfriend. Moreover, local news is now releasing more timeline details in the Miami Cannibal investigation.
Despite denials from his mother and his girlfriend, Rudy Eugene had a violent past. The man-eating face attacker previously threatened to kill his own mother. In a police report from 2004, Rudy Eugene’s mother told cops that he threatened to kill her. The North Miami Beach Police Department report features the mother exclaiming to the cop “Thank God you’re here, he would have killed me”. She claims her son told her “I’ll put a gun to your head and kill you” In fact, when officers tried to arrest Eugene in 2004, he resisted, much like last Saturday. Eugene “took a fighting stand, balled his hands into a fist”.
Moreover, in the weeks leading up the cannibal attack, friends say that Eugene was acting differently. He now was carrying around the Bible repeatedly. While others tried to watch movies, Eugene would text Bible verses to them as he smoked pot.
And yet, the core of the man-eating face investigation rests in a six-hour timeline. On Saturday, Eugene woke up inside his central Broward apartment that he shared with his girlfriend. Eugene had lost his home in 2011 to foreclosure. But he was not homeless. He had a car. Eugene had not been at Urban Beach Week. His girlfriend tells the Miami Herald news that Eugene had avoided the Urban Beach Week because he didn’t want to be arrested again.

Yet, the girlfriend tells news that she has no explanation why Eugene left at 5:30 am on a Saturday. One hour later, Eugene called the girlfriend to report that his car had broken down. He told her he would call right back. He never did.
Between that call at 6:30 am and 2 pm, something happened to Eugene. By 2:30, Eugene was spotted on North Bayshore Drive and NE 13th Street, without his car, now unclothed, looking for confrontations.
At that point, police have video surveillance of Eugene. Police confirm to news that Eugene approached one person on the off-ramp and tried to create a confrontation. Two minutes later, Eugene approached homeless man, Ronald Poppo.
Eugene, unclothed, is recorded throwing the elderly homeless man to the ground and tearing off his clothes, officials tell news. Poppo, a 65 years old man, was unable to fend off the younger Eugene, a former football player.
But the terror didn’t end there. Eugene chased Poppo through the Causeway. Witnesses report that, what began as a fight between Eugene and Poppo, ended with cannibalism.
Larry Vega was driving on the Causeway when he saw the terror erupt. Eugene and Poppo struggled. Eugene began to eat Poppo’s face, down to his beard. Vega tells news that drivers tried to stop the cannibalism from happening in broad day life.
But when they shouted at Eugene, Eugene just turned to them and growled, with a full open mouth of flesh. Vega said that he shouted at Eugene to stop. But Eugene “just kept eating the other guy away, like, ripping his skin.”
Officers responded. They fired one non-fatal gunshot. But Sgt. Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, tells news that it took several bullets to kill Eugene. Miami Fraternal Order of Police, Armando Aguilar, moreover claims that Eugene was exhibiting “super-human strength” like the Incredible Hulk.
Eugene was shot dead in traffic. It was a shocking end for his girlfriend. Eugene met his girlfriend in traffic in 2007, shouting at her from a passing car. “I thought he was cute. I shouted out my number to him and he called me right then. We clicked immediately.”
Poppo remains in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Despite initial news reports, officials believe that Poppo may survive but will require extensive facial reconstruction. As Vega told news, Poppo “had his face eaten down to his goatee [by Eugene]. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth [remains].”
