Bologna Earthquake Today 2012 Kills Six, Damages Estense Castle, Mirandola Cathedral

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The death toll from the Bologna, Italy May 20, 2012 earthquake is continuing to rise. The Bologna, Italy earthquake today has already killed six, injured dozens. But officials warn that the death toll could still rise on a quake that could be felt from Verona to Milan and over much of the region. Among the structures damaged were Estense Castle, Mirandola Cathedral, a Sant’Agostino ceramics factory, and a foundry in Tecopress di Dosso.
Officials are still trying to determine the extent of the Bologna, Italy earthquake today. While six persons have been found dead, as many as fifty are injured. Aftershocks are still striking across the region, making this the worse quake to strike Italy since 2009 when a temblor killed three hundred people.
Officials indicate that one person was killed in Ponte Rodoni do Bondeno. Another was killed after part of the foundry in Tecopress di Dosso collapsed. Two residents dead after much of the Sant’Agostino ceramics factory suffered damage. Officials also tell news that sections of a castle in Finale Emilia suffered massive damage.
Elsewhere, a Mirandola cathedral collapsed. “Our school children were to receive their first communion here this morning. If it had happened then it would have been a disaster,” said a priest to Italian news. Officials are also reporting massive damage to key structures in Modena and Ferrara as well.
