Sledge Hammer, Marland Anderson, Dies After Encounter with LAPD
LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Sledge Hammer, real name Marland Anderson, has died after an encounter with LAPD. Marland Anderson entertained fans in video films under the name Sledge Hammer. But six days ago, Anderson became violent. On Friday, the actor died inside a Los Angeles area hospital.
Anderson’s girlfriend called LAPD last Sunday after she claimed that Anderson was attempting suicide inside a Reseda, CA residence. Anderson, she claimed, had a knife on him. She tried to get the knife away from Anderson, unsuccessfully. During the encounter, Anderson got injured.
LAPD responded and handcuffed Anderson to a gurney. Lt. Andrew Neiman claims that Anderson remained within LAPD’s custody after being put inside an ambulance.
But for reasons still unknown, Anderson was able to break the gurney out from its floor locks. He then disengage his handcuffs, reports the LA Times. Anderson was stunned with a Taser.
He remained hospitalized since Sunday. On Friday he died. Cause of death has yet to be released to local news. Funeral arrangements have not been announced publically.
