LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jessica Dorrell (photos below) was Bobby Petrino’s Harley-Davidson passenger when he crashed Sunday. Jessica Dorrell was not injured. Dorrell is a Razorback Foundation Assistant Director and former All-SEC volleyball player. Now local news are perplexed by the failure of Bobby Petrino and university officials to mention Dorrell by name during its news statements this week.
Becky Petrino, Bobby Petrino’s wife, was alongside him bedside on Monday, athletic director Jeff Long told news. On Tuesday, April 3, the Arkansas football coach appeared before news. Having been released from the hospital, the 51 year old Petrino granted a news conference about the crash.
The Arkansas Times claims that during that April 3 news conference Petrino made no mention about a companion on the motorcycle. In response to the alleged question if anyone was with him, and if anyone helped him get up, he purported said “When I came out of a ditch, there was a lady there that had flagged down a car. And the guy that was in the passenger seat said get in we’ll just take you right to the hospital.” He doesn’t mention Dorrell’s name.
The Times claims that, when Kevin Trainor, spokesman for the athletic department, was asked about Dorrell traveling with Petrino, they university refused comment. The statement issued to the Time makes no reference to a passenger. “Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.”
The statement, omitting Dorrell’s name, added “Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time. Jeff Long, director of athletics and vice chancellor, said he has been in touch with the Petrinos and added that he will consult with the family to provide additional information at a later time. Until then, there will be no further information or comment on the accident per the Petrinos’ request.”
A similar University of Arkansas news statement issued to the Orlando Sentinel told reporters that “no other individuals” were involved in the accident. “Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.”
However, the police report states “Petrino was traveling west on his motorcycle in the westbound lane … with passenger Dorrell riding on the back.”
Dorrell, on March 28, was appointed Student Athlete Development Coordinator. “Jessica Dorrell will be a great addition to our football program,” Petrino said in a news statement at the time. “As a former student-athlete she has an enthusiasm for the Razorbacks and is familiar with what the University of Arkansas can offer.”
Petrino, Dorrell, and the University have yet to comment about the police report issued today.
