LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Sarah Jones (photos below) is a Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader indicted by a Kentucky grand jury yesterday. Sarah Jones as a Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader dominated news, however, two years earlier in her legal fight with website TheDirty.com. After the TheDirty.com published a news article about Sarah, and made alleged implications about Sarah Jones and former Bengals kicker Shayne Graham, Jones sued. Now Jones herself and her mother have been criminal indicted on an unrelated matter Thursday.
Sarah Jones and Bengals kicker Shayne Graham dominated pictures on TheDirty.com in 2009. The story became the subject of a news story on 20/20 featuring the website’s founder Nik Richie. Jones took to the ABC news telecast to inform the public about her legal dispute.
Sarah Jones was unhappy with the allegations of TheDirty article and took the matter to a Kentucky court. WPTV reports, however, that U.S. District Judge William O. Bertelsman in the matter has set the trial date for June 4 of this year. The parties have yet to confirm the same.
But on Thursday, Jones faced new issues. Yesterday, a Kenton County indicted Sarah Jones on criminal charges concerning alleged conduct locally. Now Sara Jones has new trouble, not in the civil arena, but in a criminal indictment.
If found guilty, Jones faces five years in prison. WPTV reports that Jones is currently the Ben-Gals cheerleading squad team captain.
But the problems for the Jones family don’t end there. Her mother, Cheryl Jones, the principal at Twenhofel Middle School in Independence, was also indicted for tampering of evidence.
Attorney(s) for the two Jones tell news that the mother and daughter are innocent. “Cheryl Jones did not tamper with evidence,” said attorney Charles T. Lester. Sarah’s lawyers also tell news that she is innocent. Mr. Lester said in a news statement Thursday that “Sarah has maintained her innocence. The indictment of her mother is completely baseless”.
EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: The case of Doe v. Dirty World Entertainment Recordings LLC, in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky (Covington), concerning the TheDirty.com dispute, does have a trial date of June 4, 2012.
But TheDirty.com has filed an appeal and the trial date could be stayed pending an appellate determination. “It is ordered … Defendants’ Motion to Stay be and hereby is taken under advisement pending the determination of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit as to whether it has jurisdiction over defendants’ appeal.” For more, click HERE.
