But officials confirm that at no time was the airport closed today.
Philadelphia International Airport officials tell news that the device was initially believed to be a homemade bomb. But it was later determined homemade fireworks. So why was a passenger taking fireworks through TSA?
The man told investigators that he had used a particular bag to make the fireworks at home. He later discarded the fireworks and used the same bag to pack his luggage. He says he was surprised to learn that two of the fireworks were still in the bag and had not be discarded.
The tense moment did not close the airport nor halt flights at anytime today March 29, 2012. Rather Philadelphia International Airport officials confirm that the gate and checkpoint were closed for less than thirty minutes.
