Yard Crashers Changed, What Happened to Ahmed Hassan: EXCLUSIVE

Yard Crashers Changed, What Happened to Ahmed Hassan: EXCLUSIVE

CORAL GABLES (LALATE EXCLUSIVE) – A Yard Crashers change is prompting fans to ask “what happened to Ahmed Hassan?” Ahmed Hassan is not the DIY Network host of Yard Crashers season seven. But while Ahmed Hassan, DIY, and the new host Matt Blashaw have yet to comment about the switch, fans are not pleased. Hassan is one of the most beloved personalities on DIY. Tonight news of his exit is prompting confusion and displeasure among viewers.

Ahmed Hassan’s exit from Yard Crashers is far more different than the recent exit of Sandra Rinomato from Property Virgins. Sandra Rinomato announced to fans on Facebook her decision to leave Property Virgins, to launch her new show. Sandra gave a long detailed news statement early on and has since guided fans to her new show Buy Herself debuting this April on HGTV Canada.

But for Ahmed Hassan, DIY hasn’t particularly handled the progression clearly. In recent weeks, Yard Crasher fans including LALATE have watched as Ahmed Hassan appeared nowhere in Season 7 premiere announcements. In commercials promoting the new season, the host is shown as Matt Blashaw, not Ahmed Hassan.

Tonight, the confusion got worse. Matt Muenster, host of Bath Crashers, tweeted moments ago “Congrats to my friend and fellow Crasher Matt Blashaw on his big Yard Crasher premiere coming up April 2nd! Head over to his page and give him some love.” Muenster made no mention of Ahmed.

Immediately, Muenster’s remarks created a waterfall of comments. “No more Ahmad? …Yes, what happened to Ahmad”. One fan commented “You knew [Matt] you were opening the door for a ton of Ahmed questions…and here’s one more. Where is he?”

Muenster has yet to respond to the comments. One fan noted that the DIY commercials clearly suggested that Ahmed was gone. “However when I saw that Ahmed wasn’t on the yard crashers commercial I was heartbroken because I realized he had been replaced. I miss him and his show during the winter months.” Blashaw tells news “Hey, everyone! My episodes of “Yard Crashers” start up soon”.

When Sandra was replaced on Property Virgins, HGTV initially kept Sandra’s images on their website’s header, even while the new Property Virgins season started. But while DIY has replaced Ahmed on their Yard Crashers show, they replaced him on their Yard Crashers website, still listing him as the host.

For now, Hassan continues to make appearances across the country. Last week, he appeared as a guest presenter as “Americas favorite landscaper” on the Today Show. He has recently made appearances on the CBS Early Show and the Nate Berkus Show as well.

Ahmed was a great host, my favorite, actually. He has incredible charisma and talent. Without him, Yard Crashers, will lose me as a viewer. I have no intention of watching one episide with Blashaw as host.

He is the best. Hands down one of top hosts on DIY and HGTV. This show will probably die just like Clean House after Neicy Nash left (although HGTV did alot to kill the show). I actually emailed DIY after seeing the new TV ads with the new guy. Of course they did not respond.
In this link he mentions he will not be back but not why. Clearly, it looks like he and DIY did not part ways on a good note.Anyway, guess that’s it for me and DIY. His was the only show I watched on DIY.

My husband who only watches sports TOLD me to get on the internet and FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO AHMAD! Now my husband is a manly man so much that this question is huge. DIY needs to get this man back on this show. We would watch him all day on marathons. Amhad come back to us and spin your magic. We aren’t watching until you do.

I’ve been a loyal watcher of DIY for years and have become very dissappointed with the fact the network has been running reruns for over a yr now and the only ones worth viewing over and over again have been YCs due to Ahmed’s charisma and infectious approach. Replacing him speaks volumes about how out of touch the network is about what their viewers want and expect from the shows on DIY. This will certainly impact viewership in the most negative way possible with a network who now is showing lower viewership and ratings over the last several yrs.

So upset that Ahmed is not on Yard Crashers. Will not watch it again. Top guys in network nuts again!!!!

I am so disappointed with DIY not bringing back Ahmed to Yard Crashers. I will not be watchin it. Somehow I knew this would happen once I saw Bath, Room, and House Crashers all with white hosts then I figured that Ahmed on Yard Crashers would not last because he was black. So sad because not only was he good, but he is funny as well. Sorry, I threw the race card out there, but to me it’s like the elephant in the room.

  8. Carter said,

I just realized Ahmad has been replaced.why???? He is the best. Iris, please don’t use the race card on this one. I am white and all my white friends adore Ahmad. We never talk about the other “crasher” shows only Ahmad and yardcrashers. Bring Ahmad back!

How do we know it wasn’t Ahmed’s decision? Maybe he has some better opportunities and he decided he needed to leave the show. Just because we all loved his charisma doesn’t mean he has to continue doing the show for us if he didn’t love doing it. Overall the Diy Network is an entertaining and provides a great service to all DIY’ers!

  21. Scarpien said,

AFH: The fact that the network is so tight-lipped about Ahmed’s sudden departure doesn’t say much about them or the fact that it had to have ended badly. I’m sure if Ahmed leaving the show was voluntary/on good terms he would have informed his fans, or at least the network would have said so, don’t you think?

I was so sadden why Ahmed is not the host of Yard Crashers. He was so good, entertaining and has a great personality. I used to search the TV schedule to see when Yard Crasher was on and set aside that time to watch even though it may have been a re-run. Well you have now lost me as a viewer or follower of Yard Crasher or any of the other Crasher shows.

In fact we were hopeing to use one of the Yard Crashers that he has done in the past when we move into our new home. So thank you Ahmed and when you get a new show, you will have us watching.

Did anyone else notice how formulaic all of the crasher shows have gotten? Most everyone chosen is a young, cute couple. Frankly, I went to a home show in my hometown to hear Ahmed talk about yard design and landscape, he talked about himself for about 10 mins and then brought “experts” from local nurseries to talk about design and plant care. I was very disappointed and haven’t really been interested in any of the crasher shows since. I will give Matt Blashaw a chance tho. Maybe they will do something different like broaden their participant selection or talk more about how to create a design and take care of the plants.

I am so sick of my favorite shows or people on them being taken off. DIY you just lost me as a watcher. Ahmed was why Yard Crashers was not only something you learned how how to treat your own yard, but he made it fun to watch (and I don’t even have a yard). The new man you choose does that other show Professional Grade and he’s a boring host on there, where do you think he’ll be any better doing Yard Crashers?

I am a little baffled as to why they would replace a certified landscape architect with a construction professional. Perhaps they think they are interchangeable career fields? This only shows their lack of understanding.

  41. Jacque Barton said,

He was my favorite; I actually started watching DIY TV because of that show. I have seen his replacement and the two personalities are not even comparable. Ahmed will be missed, and DIY will surely miss some fans because of the way this was handled.

  42. Minorca said,

    on April 2nd, 2012 at 12:12 pm

There are two problems here the way I see it. First that Ahmed is gone. And yes, maybe it was Ahmed’s decision to leave, but we don’t know and that brings me to problem number two. Networks taking their fans for granted and not showing them any respect. I like Matt Blashaw; I watch him on other shows, but that’s not the issue here. At a minimum an explanation would be nice. If they parted because they couldn’t come to an agreement, fine, just say so. If they replaced him arbitrarily – bad move. He was “is” the best – charismatic, funny, good looking – you name it! The issue is though that the networks treat us like sheep that are just going to follow along no matter how badly they screw up. Sorry, but to me Ahmed was Yard Crashers.

I am really upset that Ahmed is not the host of “Yard Crashers” any longer. He was such an energetic, talented, and fun guy. I will miss him. I hope he gets a great deal elsewhere, since it appears that diy wouldn’t come up with the bucks! To other commenters: please spell his name CORRECTLY–it’s AHMED, not Ahmad!

Not only does he save people’s yards with his crew like Jim and Jake but he does it with a presence…..major energy!!! I AM TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH DIY!!!!!!!!! I just watched a minute and switched the new host whoever he is totally sucks, he is dry and boring no personality!!! WHERE IS AHMED??????????

  47. Bud said,

Stop complaining to DIY network about Ahmed, you aren’t their customer. Complain to your cable or satalite provider about the reduction in quality of their programing.

  48. Mason said,

    on April 2nd, 2012 at 9:18 pm

Bud DIY is the network that host the show so we are complaining to the right entity. Our providers are still providing the show, nothing they can do about the networks decisions. That comment is so displaced it’s baffling. .

  49. Sunny said,

    on April 2nd, 2012 at 9:25 pm

DIY Network goes through hosts like most people use Kleenex. And this isn’t the first time they have killed a show by replacing the host with Matt Blashaw. A hunch: he is the goofy brother-in-law of the network’s owner. They never say what kind of contractor he is “certified” as, or where. So they may just be tired of their “Crashers” franchise and using Blashaw to destroy it. This last year DIY has offered a huge number of rehashed “clip shows” cutting up and re-using old footage instead of new programming. But since Dish Satellite charges an extra $20/month just to get their network, it may be good timing to treat the DIY Network the same way they treated Ahmed.

I have been watching the old shows leading up to the new season, couldn’t wait to see Ahmed’s smile, laugh, charisma and humor. But what do I see instead, matt who? I waited for Ahmed to show up, when he didn’t by the time a couple was picked, I clicked off. I will NOT be watching anymore DIY TV again. I only watched for Yard Crashers with Ahmed, since he’s no longer there, neither will I be. Take your viewers for granted DIY and your ratings will suffer as stated by others… Hope you can survive with bath and house. I’m finished with your channel and have deleted it from my “favorites”…

I have nothing against Matt, I’ve seen him on ither DIY shows & he’s pretty good. But man, did they have to drop Ahmed? He’s the original king of the whole “Crashers” series, I don’t think the DIY Network realizes how many disappointed fans they have right now. But I will still watch the show, Matt shouldn’t be taking the blame for tge network’s faults.

I have been an avid HGTV and DIY channel viewer for years. Yard Crashers has been one of my favorite shows. Ahmed was one of the best hosts on both networks. Its hard to believe that he was replaced without any explanation whatsoever. I’m sure DIY will see evidence of their viewers displeasure, in the shows ratings. I have deleted DIY and HGTV from my favorites and removed all of their shows from my DVR. Thanks DIY Network!

Oh well, one less show I have to record. Yard Crashers and Ahmed Hassan are made for each other and taking Ahmed out of the show is like trying to start a car after you sucked all the gas out of the tank. I’m sorry, but I’m not watching Yard Crashers anymore.

It’s tough to follow someone as TALENTED as Ahmed. He was entertaining and made it seem that everyone working together was having fun. He included the people working for and with him as part of the “stars,” I feel sorry for Matt,,, he won’t have a chance to be Matt, the star of Yard Crashers…… because we all want Ahmed back… I think it is the beginning of the end, and i am SO sad I never got a turn….

We are very disappointed with DIY and this debacle. We saw the ads for the new ‘Yard Crasher.’ The truth is: there is NO OTHER Yard Crasher in our book, none other than Ahmad. We only subscribed to DIY to see him/his show. We are done. We no longer need this network, we’ll just stick to sports. DIY get it together; people were watching, they were happy, now you went and mucked things up!

  84. Kelli said,

    on April 20th, 2012 at 6:14 pm

I am not watching Yard Crashers or Turf War anymore. Nothing against Matt, but he lacks Ahmed’s ability to connect with the home owners. With Ahmed there was an almost instant connection with the home owners that set them at ease and made them relax, which made it more fun for us to watch. Matt doesn’t have that. Maybe he just hasn’t found his groove yet, but he isn’t as engaging or funny or charismatic as Ahmed. The shows just aren’t as enjoyable with him as a host so I no longer will be watching. If they were going to replace Ahmed they needed to do so with a host who was equally as engaging and entertaining, they failed to do that so they’ve lost me as a viewer.

Ahmed was the best and not having him as host of yard crasher means not having many viewers. I’m sure Matt Blashaw is a nice guy and he knows CONSTRUCTION NOT LANDSCAPING!!!!!!!! So until you all can get Ahmed back you’ve lost me and I’m sure many, many other loyal viewers of Yardcrashers.

I speak for everyone who loves Amhed’s
Yard Crashers. And are all very upset that
he no longer is the host of the show. He
made that show popular and had every
viewer love his comic relief. And his
    landscaping experience! We want
    Amhed! We want Amhed!

  94. Anna said,

    on April 22nd, 2012 at 3:37 pm

I was shocked when I saw Amhed was not returning to Yard Crashers. it was the only crashers series I liked and it was mainly because of Amhed personality. He was genuine, not stiff, silly or phoney like some other crasher hosts tend to be. Oh well, I wish I had taped his shows…no more crasher shows for me.

  95. Dervin Grice said,

I can’t believe that this has happened to the best host that DIY had! He started the crash rage! I paid the extra money to Direct TV for one reason and one reason only! Yard Crashers! I often wished that I would walk into Menards in Bolingbrook and run into him and bring him home to completely transform my yard! I am calling Direct TV and lowering my package because of this change by the DIY Network! I did not like the new host on this years Blog Cabin and I gave this years YC about 4 mins and that was enough for me. We all love Ahmed, bring him back! This is just a mess! If this is not possible, a statement must be made, so that his fans understand what the …. happened here!

What horror… what a disappointment… it’s awful!!! No disrespect to Matt, but he’s NO AHMED HASSAN..nor will he ever be!! Matt doesn’t have the personality nor the “it factor”… DirectV gave us a FREE PREVIEW this week that included the DIY Network… I saw this new guy and right away it turned my stomach!!! I asked myself, “Where is Ahmed???” :-( Why isn’t he going through the garden centers looking for a Yard Crasher target???? Well, the new host (Matt) can forget it… I don’t like Yard Crashers!!!!

And I’m sure other viewers will share my opinion as well. And tell that new host to STOP ATTEMPTING to bring any “fake humor” and excitement to the Yard Crashers show… He’s failing miserably!!!

  98. Lynn Stevens said,

    on April 24th, 2012 at 11:51 am

I’m done with Yard Crashers. You blew it DYI when you lost Ahmed. Now seems like a 1/2 hour commercial, host plugging Scott’s, Miracle grow, etc. no more watching for hubby and I on Sat mornings. Why mess with something that works?

  99. Virginia said,

    on April 24th, 2012 at 12:34 pm

That’s HGTV for you. They take the shows and hosts their viewers like and either come up with things like “million dollars rooms” – like any of their viewers can afford a million dollar room or change hosts, like TRYING to replace Ahmed -bad move! and think they will keep viewers.
I have my own opinion as to what they are trying to do but will keep it to myself because of this sites rules. So now I will not be watching on weekends but going out and doing what I learned from the Great hosts/shows they have replaced or discontinued with nothing but fluff!!!

Another disappointed fan. I hope it was Ahmed’s decision. I really hope there is another show in the works for him. I have grown to like Josh (house crashers) but Ahmed was definitely the best. Never really cared for any of the other crashers.

  101. PAULA said,

I was not happy to see Ahmed was no longer with Yard Crashers! Obviously, it was nothing like Property Virgins, because they announced the new hostess, Egypt Sherrod. So to me, it appeared Sandra’s leaving was a mutually respectful departure.

Like some others said, Ahmed’s leaving was not on good terms. This is obvious. I did not like what I saw with the new host– no disrespect, I wish him well… but, just in the commercials alone, something wasn’t right. Oh well, one less show I have to keep up with on my DVR….

  102. on April 26th, 2012 at 7:30 am

I just turned on Yard Crashers and saw that they had a new Host. I was very disappointed to see that Ahmed was not there anymore. I only had it on for a few minutes to check the date and was hoping that it was a very old episode and that was the reason that Ahmed wasn’t there, but the date was from April of 2012. Even from watching for a few minutes I noticed that the new host has ZERO charisma and personality compared to Ahmed. I’m sure he is a nice guy but he is not even remotely close to being as engaging and entertaining as Ahmed. If Ahmed was replaced by some corporate Big Wig and forced out, they are out of touch with reality and have no idea that the reason people watched was to see Ahmed with his knowledge, sense of humor and personality. This show will surely fail. I will no longer watch. Good luck to Ahmed in whatever you do.

I just started watching Yard Crashers a few months ago to get ideas for my own backyard. I’m already tired of hearing Ahmed and his huge ego, trying to be “cool” all the time. He might be a good landscaper, but he is ANNOYING! The guy acts like he thinks he’s the coolest person to ever have a camera pointed at him. Confidence and humor, which the other “crasher” hosts clearly have, is a requirement for a show like YC, but Ahmed crosses the line into cockiness. I won’t miss him a bit.

And forget the new host of Turf War, he just plain sucks! I used to Tivo Yard Crashers and Turf War, if I couldn’t.watch it. Now I may watch a episode of Yard Crashers here and there. Ahmed had style and his character was knowledgeable and funny. His approach was professional but not uncomfortable. And his plant knowledge was creative and stylish. I miss him and will not be watching anymore DIY programs because of the way they handled releasing Ahmed. They should have been more clear on his release. Maybe Ahmed wanted to return to his landscaping business full time, they just needed to say that. Pure disappointment!

Ahmed is absolutely my favorite. Diy and HGTV continuously does this with hosts and shows and I believe to target younger markets. Paul James, Joe Washington, Tia Marlier comes to mind? Ahmed is young, cant figure out why he is gone unless it was his choice I am gone from Diy because of this. HGTV has some real ditz’s for hosts and the shows are redundant, such a disappointment and am ready to stop watching this as well. Management you are making some really stupid decisions.

Why would you replace a real landscaper with a contractor for a show called yard crashers? Ahmed KNOWS about trees, flowers, plants, bushes, etc AND he can install a water feature, lay brick, build a shade fixture, etc. While matt is nice, hge KNOWS NOTHING about plant, trees, flowers, etc. I tried watching the show and you can tell the difference. I also have been boycotting Yard Crashers since Ahmed was removed. I agree with the assessment of Matt. Although he has been part of the HGTV family for a while, he is not a landscaper, but more of a ‘pretty face’ for TV. It seems that HGTV gauges the merit of their Hosts by appearance and HGTV’s sense of perception. It is a shame. I have been a nonstop loyal fan of HGTV/DIY for years, often dedicating many a weekend glued to the shows. There are still many programs that I still watch, but I have not watched Yard Crashers since Ahmed’s departure.

I only watch Yard Crashers because of Ahmed. I have tried watching the new host but find the show lacking in character. I no longer watch Yard Crashers and have no intentions of returning as a viewer (unless Ahmed returns). There are only a couple of other shows that I watch on HGTV and should you begin replacing the host, I’ll replace watching HGTV altogether.

Me and my company done and episode this season. Word is Ahmed got to drinking with the home owners of an episode at an after party and was hitting on the home owners wife kinda thing. Just word in the grapevine. P.S. That matt guy is a real cool down to earth guy! He was fun to work with.

I attempted to watch YC with the new host. Nothing aganist you Matt you seem like a good enough host, but Ahmed is a very hard act to follow. Needless to say I’m done. Hopefully I can catch some reruns. Wishing now I had recorded episodes.

I have watched all of Amed’S DIY videos but its not
the same. Matt is over doing it trying to act just like
Amed, it turns me off. I don’t watch any more. Can’t
you see the viewers want to see Amed???
