LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Swamp People have sunk Jersey Shore and Snooki, in cable ratings, with Mudcats following behind. Swamp People, the History Channel series, was the number one show on cable last Thursday night, taking down the usual ratings champ for the evening, Jersey Shore. And newcomer, Mudcats, also from History, followed narrowly behind.
Jersey Shore was number one in the key demographic of 18-49, Neilsen tells news. But Swamp People delivered the most overall viewers for the night. The show had roughly three hundred thousand more viewers than Snooki and Co. Swamp People was the lead of the night with 5.2 million viewers.
But the good news continued for History. Its new series, Mudcats, was the third overall most watched show on cable Thursday night. It was more watched than any NCAA basketball game. Mudcats ended third overall and third in the 18-49 demographic, officials tell news.
Mudcats only premiered last February 9. The History Chanel has said of the show that “Following them on their fearless hunts for big fish and even bigger thrills, viewers will enter a culture of natural recklessness, one-ups-manship and danger, where bites from turtles, snakes and beavers are just the price of doing business, and where losing your whole forearm down the maw of a sixty-pound catfish is, well, a smashing success”.
Mudcats is produced by Original Media for the History Channel. Executive Producers for Original Media are Jay Peterson, Charlie Corwin and Brian Catalina. Executive Producers for History Channel are Mary Donahue and Paul Cabana
