LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Shahs of Sunset are more popular than Bethenny Frankel, at least this week in tv ratings. Shahs of Sunset ratings are in, and the new series from Ryan Seacrest did exceptionally well. On a night in which the Bravo series had to go up against Oprah’s Next Chapter with Bobbi Kristina Brown’s news interview, Shahs of Sunset almost did as well as Seacrest’s Khloe and Lamar, also airing on a competing network.
Cable ratings for the night put Oprah at number two overall with 3.5 million viewers. Seacrest’ other produced show that night, Khloe and Lamar, delivered a strong 1.8 million viewers for E! networks. But with its series premiere, Shahs pulled in an impressive 1.1 million viewers, twenty-third overall for the night. On Monday, however, Bethenny Frankel drew only 1.022 million viewers for its latest episode.
The Shahs premiere follows recent good news for Bravo with other shows including RHOC. “The Real Housewives of Orange County” earning a massive 2.3 million views for its premiere. Moreover, Watch What Happens Live has continued to break its own record ratings.
Bravo tells news that Shahs is a “latest docu-series follows a group of friends who are trying to juggle their active social lives and up-and-coming careers while balancing the demands of their families and traditions.” The network describes the show as featuring socialites who “are fervent on the dating and party scene, but seeking approval from their families they face pressures to settle down and marry within the community.” Reaction to the show has been mixed, with many critics feeling the show is a lackluster reinvention of other reality shows. But Bravo says “From outings on Rodeo Drive to traditional Persian feasts at home, this series celebrates the unique lifestyle of a group of friends who have worked hard for what they have and are not afraid to flaunt it.”
