U.S. Rep. Donald Payne Cause of Death Revealed as Colon Cancer

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – U.S. Rep. Donald Payne is dead at age 77. Payne’s cause of death was colon cancer, his family tells news in a statement. U.S. Rep. Donald Payne died follow a battle with colon cancer in recent weeks. His health had deteriorated earlier this month, sources told news. Funeral arrangements have not been announced to news. A memorial service is expected.
Days ago, aides to the Democratic New Jersey congressman said that he was in poor health. Family and staff members, however, told news that they were not authorized to officially confirm the same. The aide had said “We hope for a miracle, but we’re preparing for the worst”.
His son Donald Payne Jr., told the Newark Star-Ledger days ago “We’re still a bit optimistic, but I mean, you know, it is what it is. It’s cancer.” Another aide said family and staff had gathered to “say their goodbyes” earlier this week.
In February, Payne had confirmed he had colon cancer. Days ago, he had returned to New Jersey after seeking treatment in Washington.
Payne is a former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. Payne was currently in his twelfth term. He previously served as senior Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee’s sub-panel on Africa. He helped raise $100 million in funding for health programs in Africa. Donald Payne will be greatly missed.
