LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – MIA and Benjamin Bronfman aka Ben Brewer (photos below) have broke up. Benjamin Bronfman and M.I.A. have split after three years of being engaged. Benjamin Bronfman and MIA in 2009 announced news of their child’s birth Edgar Arular Bronfman. Last weekend, LALATE reported extensively how Bronfman was quiet amid the MIA salute scandal during the Superbowl 2012 telecast. Now new reports today claim that, not only have the two allegedly split since the Super Bowl controversy, but also allegations that MIA hadn’t seen her own child consistently.
Last weekend, MIA gave a salute during a NBC telecast of the Super Bowl. Reports claimed that MIA’s contract caused her to indemnify NBC in the event any of her antics caused liability or fines to the broadcaster. In 2004, the FCC fined CBS $550,000 for the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction (a fine overturned on appeal).
But since that MIA controversy erupted, NBC apologized to news and fans that it missed the salute and aired it without censorship. . “We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime,” said Christopher McCloskey, a spokesman for NBC. He added “It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.” Since that telecast, MIA has also apologized to news. But the rapper is reportedly in London, not in New York.
Last weekend, much of America believed that MIA and Bronfman were still engaged. But the New York Daily News is claiming that the couple have broke up and called off their three year engagement. Their child Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman is now three years old. The Daily News also claims that MIA, aka Mathangi (Maya) Arulpragasam, “sometimes goes six weeks without seeing” Ikhyd.
After announcing their engagement, the couple had moved to Brentwood in the Los Angeles suburbs. But MIA decided not to get married at the time. She told Fader magazine in 2010 “That’s what they want me to do, but I’m not going to lose my integrity for that s—,” she said. “I actually want a nice wedding. I’m not going to blow that.”
Benjamin Bronfman is said to have moved on and begun dating. His parents are Edgar Bronfman Jr. and Sherry Brewer. Edgar Bronfman Sr, however, disapproved of the Bronfman-Brewer marriage. “Sherry offered to convert [to Judaism], which though well intentioned, was not the point” Bronfman Sr once told news.
Until 2011, Edgar Bronfman Jr was CEO of Warner Music, and hence Madonna’s boss. But in 2007, Madonna singed the 360 deal with Live Nation Entertainment. Her current album MDN is her first album since leaving Warners.
MIA and Benjamin Bronfman have yet to confirm the news of their split. Bronfman formerly went by the name Ben Brewer when he toured with the group The Exit.
