LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Ark Hotel, a Chinese 30-story hotel built in 15 days (video below), has made history. The 30-story hotel was constructed by the Broad Group, a Chinese construction company, in just fifteen days in Changsha near Dongting lake in the Hunan Province. And while the speed in which the hotel was built is making history, the sustainability of its structure is also making news. Chinese news reports claim the Hotel can withstand a 9.0 magnitude earthquake.
The China Academy of Building Research tells news that the structure is not only historic with its completion schedule but also its sustainability. It reportedly is five times more earthquake resistant than other structures. That Academy has tested the structure and confirmed it could survive a 9.0 magnitude quake.
But how did Broad Group build a thirty-story hotel, amounting to one hundred eight-three thousand square feet, in just three hundred sixty hours? They tell news the keys are prefabricated and sections constructed ahead of time (not included in the fifteen day period).
The structure also exceeds normal construction standards. Each room has its own air quality monitoring device for hotel guests. The structure is soundproofed and thermal-insulated. It will also boast energy efficiency better than comparable hotels; the hotel features four-paned windows.
