LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Huong Hoang aka Junie Hoang is the 40 year old plaintiff in the IMDb “Jane Doe” lawsuit. Huong Hoang (stage name Junie Hoang) is a Vietnamese actress who sued Amazon.com, owners of IMDb, after they published her age. She claims they did so without her permission.
Hoang had filed a $1 million lawsuit as “Jane Doe” claiming that the company had no authorization to publish her age, that the publication of her age would result in her seeming “over the hill” to casting executives, and that she would lose work for the age publication. She filed the suit as “Jane Doe” so that casting agents would still not know she is 40 years old.
But a Seattle judge said that Jane Doe could not continue to pursue her lawsuit without revealing her name. This week, she modified her suit and revealed her name.
She claims she is “many years older than she looks” and that “youth is king” in her industry. She claims the publication of her age led to a “substantial decrease in acting credits, employment opportunities and earnings.”
Amazon responded with a news statement which reads “Plaintiff’s attempt to manipulate the federal court system so she can censor IMDb.com’s display of her birth date and pretend to the world that she is not 40 years old is selfish, contrary to the public interest and a frivolous abuse of this court’s resources.”
