Clay Aiken False Plastic Surgery Allegations Enrage Fans

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Clay Aiken didn’t have plastic surgery. But a series of false articles claiming Clay Aiken had plastic surgery, or even worse claiming his face is “odd”, are enraging Aiken fans this week. Clay Aiken made news this week, being formally confirmed as a new contestant on Celebrity Apprentice 2012. Unlike other reality shows where celebrities use the program to enrich their own wallets, Celebrity Apprentice is a series about ultimately helping charities in need. And while this week could have featured more articles about Aiken’s charitable work, some websites devoted their entire attention at criticizing Aiken’s face. As a result, Clay Aiken fans are furious.

Since at least 2006, Hollywood actors and singers have decided not to sit back and let publications either falsely state or falsely imply they had plastic surgery or other types of cosmetic surgery. In July 2006, Shannon Doherty admitted to news and fans that she was enraged at a Star publication that claimed she had recently undergone plastic surgery. At the time, Doherty was on production of her new series, “Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty.”

Shannon, appearing on The View, told fans and news that the cover was not only false but so hurtful that she had to stop production on her show. “Production got halted for about an hour and a half because I was sobbing uncontrollably. If you didn’t have it (plastic surgery) and they’re saying that you did, then it’s embarrassing, it’s humiliating. I don’t know if anybody’s noticed, but I’ve pretty much been hiding out as much as humanly possible.” Shannon also told news “I’ve been trying to stay out of the press because I just don’t want it in my life anymore. I hired a litigator and I’m willing to put as much money behind a lawsuit as humanly possible, just to sort of teach them a lesson.”

Doherty told Barbara Walters “I’m actually willing to go so far as to go sit down with whatever plastic surgeon they want to put in front of me who can inspect my face. I went to work and my lovely hairdresser David came to me and said, ‘Oh my God, did you see the cover of Star?’ and I went, ‘No, why?’ He told me and then he pulled it up online.”

On one major U.S. portal, one of the top five stories in rotation since earlier this week reads “Clay Aiken’s baffling new appearance”. Under a picture of his face, the caption reads “Clay Aiken’s odd new face”. The caption adds “In a “Celebrity Apprentice” pic, the star looks way different than in his “Idol” days.” The article then cites a NBC public relations picture of Aiken, leaning over a table. The picture is a poorly stage pic. But to call a celebrity’s face “odd” because the public relations department takes a bad picture is improper.

One popular website this week ran coverage, not of Aiken’s charitable work, but an article also about his face. Entitled “Clay Aiken – Clay Aiken’s Apprentice Shot Hints At Plastic Surgery?”, fans fumed at the article. Fans were equally angry at another article entitled “Clay Aiken – A Plastic Surgery Participant?” Not one of those articles focused on the charitable work that Aiken has done over the years.

In 2004, Sharon Stone made news for filing a lawsuit against a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, claiming that he falsely claimed to have given her a facelift. The surgeon was allegedly quoted in celebrity news magazines claiming to have given Stone that procedure. Her suit states at the time “False statements that Sharon Stone has sought to artificially preserve her beauty by undergoing a facelift procedure are damaging to her professional reputation as a talented and beautiful actress who prides herself on her natural beauty,” the suit said. The case in Los Angeles County Superior Court was eventually settled.

Aiken debuts on Celebrity Apprentice 2012 on February 12 at 9 pm EST.

While Aiken has done charitable work at home, he has done the same internationally for years. In 2008, LALATE detailed extensively his work with UNICEF. In one project, Aiken teamed up with UNICEF and Malaria No More to defeat malaria—a completely preventable disease that still kills one child every 30 seconds worldwide. Aiken told news at the time “It doesn’t have to be this way. For a limited time, Malaria No More will match your donation in the fight against malaria, helping UNICEF save twice as many lives.”

Totally agree with the above article. However, I love the pic in question.
There are always people[?] out there with such low self-esteem, they are not happy unless trying to bring down others. Pathetic!

Thank you for this article. Clay did have TMJ surgery a few years ago. The doctors had to break his jaw, and that did change his appearance a bit. But he has not had plastic surgery. He isn’t vain enough to do that. To me he looks exactly like he’s looked for a long time. Ten years of maturity is natural since Idol days when he was but a skinny kid. I think he’s fabulously handsome. If people had been paying attention, they would know how he has looked all along. Thank you again for attempting to set the record straight.

Yup. Clay has TMJ issues and they broke and realigned his jaw. Changed his face. He DID have this little pooch of fat sucked out from under his chin which “technicallly” is ‘work on the face.’ Whatever. I, too, love the Celebrity Apprentice promo pic.

Further Clarification: Clay’s charitable work ‘at home’ is his own foundation, National Inclusion Project. He created it right after Idol. Impressive charity.

What people also do not “get” is that when Clay was on American Idol, he was a “starving” college student who bought food when he found change under his car seat. At 6′1, he weighed less than 150 (per the AI bio at the time). Now, not only is he older, he is of normal weight, people! I also weighed a whole lot less as a college student due to walking campus, not much money etc.

Thanks so much for this article. I was pretty ticked off about the Yahoo story and had wished they’d featured his work with his foundation. It also would have been nice if they had mentioned his beautiful new single, “Bring Back My Love”.
But, sadly, that’s not what people like to read these days. Clay has matured into a very handsome man and I’m sure that the people writing the nasty articles about him are not nearly as successful and have not done all of the charitable work as Clay has. Looking forward to seeing him on Celebrity Apprentice. Couldn’t help noticing in the interviews from the last few days that many of the other celebs on the show really were surprised by him (in a good way).

What is really sad is how out of touch the so-called media is. Clay has been photographed at least a hundred times, made PBS special, has an album cover, two tours, benefit appearances, TV appearances, and live interviews, all since he had the TMJ surgery, and the media is just now noticing? No wonder the public has such a low opinion of the so-called journalists.

Thanks for the article! Clay looks wonderful!

Is there EVER going to be a time when the truth-challenged media will focus on what’s really important about this man? His beautiful singing voice or the fact that he started a foundation 8 years ago that has helped thousands of children? I’m SO SICK of the cheap shots taken at Clay. Thank you for this article. Why can’t the media focus on what’s important instead of salacious untrue crap!!!!

Thank you, LALATE, for this great article regarding Clay and the fact that he has NOT had plastic surgery.

I think he’s grown into a very handsome, mature man – what a change from the cute, skinny kid he was on AI.

And I, too, wish the media would focus more on his charitable works, his music, and his advocacy, more than on his looks and the lie of the silly plastic surgery rumors.

Thank you very much for your article. We all know that Clay has not had any plastic surgery. What is so weird is they show a picture of him from 2008 shortly after he had the TMJ Surgery. Of Course his face was still a little swollen. These people must be very jealous…because why else would they lie like that? Clay is a very handsome man..and we love him.Dat

the picture in question is obviously just a bad pic! It was in poor taste to even use it. However, the one featured above is from his bio on the Celebrity Apprentice site and he is looking mighty gorgeous if you ask me!!! Clay will always attract extreme positive and extreme negative remarks. He is quite the celebrity and when out and about, he gets all kinds of attention. :) I wish him luck on the show.

Great article. and re plastic surgery: Clay had his jaw broken and put back together surgically( due to TMJ), that may or may not have changed the shape of his jaw… but after almost 10 years of being in the public eye, he like everyone else could not have stayed the geeky 24 year old, he has become a very handsome man.

They are just trying to find something negative to say about Clay out of jealousy for his appearance on Celebrity Apprentice. He looked very cute on American Idol, he looks gorgeous today. Yes, he changed like everybody else, but for the better.

Clay has had no plastic surgery. If he had, he would admit it, if asked. He did say he got a bit of liposuction, when he had his TMJ surgery, but that’s it.
Needless to add, he is a really good looking guy now, and still has the best voice out there. All he is lacking is label and media support. Can’t understand why those with FAR less talent get shoved to the forefront.

Thanks Lalate for staying up-to-date on Clay. It is pathetic when people who do no good try to drag the do-gooders down.

Thank you for your article. It’s ridiculous how some in the media don’t seem to understand that Clay grew up! It’s been 10 yrs. since he auditioned for Idol for goodness sake. Where is there brains? TMJ surgery is rough and takes months for the swelling to go completely away. So, what do they do? Pull out a pic made during that time.

More attention should have been given to the good works of the National Inclusion Project, a charity Clay co-founded 8 years ago.

Plus, had the media been paying attention to all that Clay has done over the years, they would not be so “shocked”.

Also, everyone should give a listen to Clay’s new single “Bring Back My Love”. It’s beautiful! Available on iTunes & Amazon.

    Thank you again.

I, too, had the TMJ surgery and had my jaws re-aligned just like Clay. This type procedure changed the appearance of my jawline. I have seen Clay in person many times and I know he did not have any plastic surgery. So for people that have not even paid attention through the years do not know what they are talking about and it is outrageous to make such false claim!!

Thank you for this article, it’s nice to see the truth among all the lies. Thanks also for telling me about the surgery Clay actually did have because, as a new fan (late2010) I wasn’t sure and could only find the articles about plastic surgery, which I didn’t believe. I personally think he’s even better looking than years ago.

If only people got to know him properly before judging him, he’s done so much for so many through both his own charity and UNICEF and all people can talk about is the fact that he looks different than nine years ago, no wonder the Claymates were furious! They (we) know there’s much more to him than the media presents. I’m just grateful there’ll always be fans who can set people straight about Clay Aiken. I just think it’s really sad what people’s priorites are these days…

My Goodness- enraged Clay fans? You paint a picture of them on the warpath with baseball bats and steam coming out of their ears!!
Basically what most think is What the HECK???? The change in appearance is not newsworthy its maturity- the charity he works for is-National Inclusion Project. And his new single- Bring Back My Love- why cant THAT be written about as well as Celebrity Apprentice? Not controversial enough.

I love how the media stays so “Up to date” on things regarding Clay. He had his TMJ surgery several years ago. Anyone who has sufferred this condition knows how painful and restrictive it can be. To undergo surgery to have your jaw literally broken and then realigned WILL change the shape of your face. All it has done is re-aligned and squared up his jawline. He did have a bit of liposuction to take out a bit of “DoubleChin”, but in this day and age, that isn’t even considered plastic surgery. Obviously there are ALWAYS going to be those in the media who have nothing better to do with their time than to report negative stories about Clay, instead of focusing on hs Charity, The National Inclusion Project, which through donations, send children with all disabilities to camps with children who are not disabled. Thank You for posting a positive sotry about Clay. I for one can’t wait to see him tear it up on Celebrity Apprentice!
