LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 is closer to happening today. Manny Pacquiao tells Floyd Mayweather this week that he is ready to fight, is anxious to sign the contract, and believes only small issues remain between the two fighters. A Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight would be May 5, 2012 if the contract is signed, by both parties.
Manny Pacquiao was called out by Floyd Mayweather in a news interview last weekend. But today, Manny tells news that he is waiting for Floyd to sign the contract. Manny tells news that Floyd allegedly has the first move, not him.
“If it pushes through, once he signs the contract then I’ll sign the contract” said Pacman. But last week, Mayweather said the same about Pacman. “Sign the contract! I’m waiting. I can’t be sitting waiting all day [for your signature]”.
Mayweather during his news interview seemed less informed about the fight date, stating that he heard that May 5 was available. “They told me this … I been told May 5 is open … I told them May 5 is open.” But Pacman tells news he is already fine with May 5 and is ready to fight. “We are ready” said Manny.
Mayweather accusations were free flowing during his news interview over the weekend. Many of them were throw at Bob Arum. And while Mayweather accusations were often premised with his disclaimer that he is “speculating”, Mayweather blamed both Arum and Pacman with alleged delays in solidifying a 2012 fight date.
Not so, says Arum. Arum tells Michael Woods of ESPN “You always have to be optimistic because if you’re pessimistic that assures the fact that it won’t happen. I really believe that it will happen.”
But the question that neither side is confirming to news is whether there will be Mayweather vs Pacquiao II 2013 fight and then a Mayweather vs Pacquiao III 2014 showdown. For months, sources have claimed that the deal will involve three fights, not just one in 2012.
