CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Several Puerto Rico earthquakes today have been felt in San Juan. Red Sismica de Puerto Rico reports a terremoto felt in San Juan shortly after 6:30 am local time. The temblor was the latest in a series of quakes since last night. No reports of injuries have been detailed by local news.
The first terremoto struck shortly before 1 am local time today. The first temblor today Monday, November 28, 2011 registered a 4.9 magnitude, USGS reports to news. The quake had a nominal depth and hence was felt across a wide cross section. USGS reports to news that the quake was only seven miles below the earth’s surface. The quake was roughly sixty-seven miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Thereafter a series of lesser temblors struck. Six subsequent quakes this morning registered in the 3.0-4.0 range.
Finally at 6:36 am local time, a large 5.2 terremoto struck the region. USGS reports to news that the quake had a nominal depth, striking only nine miles below the earth’s surface. The quake was forty-three miles from Carrizales and Hatillo. The temblor was west Bayamon and roughly sixty-five miles from San Juan.
Since then, local news reports at least three more quakes in the 3.0 range this morning. Local news anticipates more aftershocks to continue to rock the region throughout the day.
