LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Ivian Sarcos (photos below) is the Miss World 2011. Ivian Sarcos, Miss Venezuela, won the Miss World, replacing Miss USA Alexandria Mills, last year’s winner. Last weekend, Ivian Sarcos secured Venezuela’s first win of the Miss World title in over a decade.
Ironically, Ivian Sarcos was studying to become a nun before she won the Miss Venezuela 2010 competition. After losing her parents at age eight, Ivian Sarcos was raised by nuns. Instead of becoming a nun, she decided to become a supermodel.
Sarcos’ win is the sixth Miss World title for Venezuela. Venezuela won the competition in 1955, twice in the eighties, and twice in the nineties. With Sacros’ win, Venezuela now has more Miss World titles than any other country, ahead of India and U.K. with five wins. USA has won the competition three times.
Her win Sunday was before a packed audience in London. “I felt the most gorgeous woman in the world. I was so happy and I wanted to shout, to cry, to stand still and to smile. So many emotions,” she told AFP. She added “I’m incredibly happy for this moment, for this opportunity and for winning and I’m grateful with my life.”
She beat out one hundred thirteen competitors. The Miss World 2011 telecast drew more than one billion viewers in nearly two hundred countries. In second was Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais, and in third was Ms. Puerto Rico Amanda Vilanova.
