LOS ANGELES (LALATE EXCLUSIVE) – Abraham Lopez made threats against Cindi Santana that were allegedly ignored. When Abraham Lopez brutally killed Cindy Santana during a break at South East High School in South Gate on Friday, Southern California residents were left in shock. But days earlier, Abraham Lopez allegedly told Cindi Santana that she would be beaten up with days. And yet, Lopez was not charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, was released on $50,000 bail, and allowed to enter South East High School Friday and kill Santana in open view. Could Cindi’s death have been prevented?

Big questions are swirling Monday about what went on days before Santana’s death between the District Attorney’s Office, the LAPD, South East High School officials, and LAUSD. It still remains unclear what line of communication, if any, was in place between the local agencies involved. But on Monday, it appears that something clearly went very wrong in the final days of Santana’s life.

Recently Cindi Santana and Abraham Lopez had broke up. Lopez, 18, and Santana, 17, had reportedly dated for several years. But in a recent Facebook message first detailed on LALATE, Lopez blamed Santana’s mother for their split. Lopez said of Santana and her “you denied what we had in front of your mom”. He also wrote “you deny us after so long and sided by your mom after everything.”

It remains unclear when Lopez’s alleged threats against Santana started. But the threats were clearly happening a week before her death, Cindi had told officials.

Days earlier, Santana had claimed she was threatened by Lopez. As a result, on September 25, Lopez was arrested for allegedly making criminal threats against Santana. The threats allegedly included text messages that he would use “friends” to come and beat up the husband of Santana’s sister. Lopez also allegedly claimed he had scandal photos of Lopez unclothed that he threatened to release to classmates.

On September 25, Lopez was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats against Santana. On September 26, the Santana family claims they contacted the school’s principal about Lopez’s conduct. On September 27, Lopez was released on $50,000 bail.

Officials confirm to news that they are still unaware what happened after that. By September 27, the District Attorney’s Office chose not to prosecute the case. It remains unclear if LAPD, the LA DA’s Office, LAUSD, and South East High School had collective open discourse between the agencies about Lopez before his release on bail on September 27. It also remains unclear what if anything the school did between Tuesday September 27 and Friday September 30.

But if anyone was monitoring a Facebook page allegedly owned by Lopez, his rant allegedly continued after his release on September 27. Between September 28 and September 29 he was allegedly still fuming about Santana online. A woman writes to Lopez “And do not worry Baby she will soon or maybe has realized what she had and lost And I’m so upset that she could hurt you loke that you do not deserve what she did nor does she deserve U”. Lopez allegedly responds to the woman with “yeah mom your right, call me.”

One day later, Cindi Santana was dead. Officials confirm to news that Lopez did not attend school classes on Friday. Rather he showed up during a lunch break, confronted Santana, and allegedly killed her in open view.

None of the involved agencies have yet to indicate if any process was in place between them to insure Santana’s protection after Lopez’s release. But they do confirm no stay-away order had been issued. Did South East High School have an steps in place to account for Lopez’s return to the campus, or was Lopez able to simply walk into the campus days after his criminal release and confront Santana? As more questions surface, few answers are being given.
