Cal State Northridge Gunman Turns Himself In

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Cal State Northridge “Gunman” from yesterday September 27, 2011 turned himself in late Tuesday night. The name of the alleged gunman has not been released to news. Investigators confirm he has yet to be charged and is listed only as a person of interest.

The male asserted that he had a gun, causing a closure of the Cal State Northridge Oviatt Library yesterday. The library will open today. The rest of the campus also remains open.

The white male is reportedly 5′9” and was wearing a t-shirt that read “Human Rights Violations”. The drama unfolded when students thought the male was suffering some sort of anxiety attack. When they asked him if he was alright, he said that he had a gun, even though no weapon was visible.

As of this morning, it remains unclear if ever had a gun and what prompted his behavior yesterday. The campus library was closed at 1:15 pm yesterday while the rest of the campus remained open. At no time did the campus go on lockdown. But officials confirmed extra officers were dispatched.

By 5 pm, officials thanked the public for their assistance and confirmed that the library would open on Wednesday morning at normal hours. Three hours later, the male turned himself in.

Sam Eshaghoff SAT Test Taker Arrested

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Sam Eshaghoff was arrested this week for allegedly being a professional SAT test taker; Sam Eshaghoff was allegedly hired by men, even a female, to take their SAT test for money and give them close to a perfect score of 2400. Eshaghoff, 19, is accused of even taking two tests on the same weekend, at different test centers.

Sam Eshaghoff, 19, was a college student when he allegedly began to take tests for six high school students, five of which for money. Four of the students got into college with those test scores; the other two were still in the admission process.

He is accused of charging upwards of $2500 per test and producing a perfect score of close to a 2400 score per student. How did he do it?

He allegedly used fake IDs and swapped in his picture. He allegedly then took tests in school districts where the students didn’t live so that test examiners wouldn’t recognize the name. He is accused of flying in for tests while being a college student and doing more than one test per weekend. He even took a test for a female. But her name was gender neutral so there was no way in the identification check for examiners to realize that she now appeared as a “he”.

How did investigators catch him? The essay exam, claims prosecutors. He allegedly was not able to alter his handwriting. So when investigators compared the six exams, the handwriting matched.

“Who are the victims?” said D.A. Kathleen Rice. “Their fellow students, who play by the rules.” Investigators believe there might be two other cases.

Cal State Northridge Gunman Suspect Photo Released

LOS ANGLEES (LALATE) – A photo of the Cal State Northridge gunman suspect has been released, the school is not on lockdown, but Oviatt Library is closed. California State University, Northridge in a news update this afternoon is asking the public’s help in locating the male listed as a person of interest.

The Oviatt Library will remain closed tonight. But officials tell news “We anticipate the library will open tomorrow morning at its normal time, and that the campus will be open and functioning normally.”

Earlier today, school officials received indications of a man at the Oviatt Library who claimed to have a gun. Tonight they have dispatched a “larger than normal contingent of police on campus.” Persons with information are advised to contact University Police at (818) 677-2111 regarding any suspicious activity.

The school did not go on lockdown today. But students were allowed to leave campus if they did not fear safe. “As previously shared, you may leave campus with proper notification to your professor/supervisor” said a news statement earlier.

At 1:15 p.m., the university first confirmed closure of Oviatt. Tonight they are thanking the public for their assistance. “The campus community has been helpful in providing leads, and we are following up on all of them.” For the photo, click HERE. For more updates, click HERE.

Dancing with the Stars Results Tonight Prompt Elisabetta Canalis Stunner

Dancing with the Stars Results Tonight Prompt Elisabetta Canalis Stunner

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Dancing with the Stars results tonight didn’t particular turn out as fans and news had anticipated. Coming into tonight’s Dancing with the Stars results show for September 27, 2011, we had one competitor who clearly produced the lowest scoring dance last night, two dancers who were the lowest overall in the last two weeks, and one celebrity who was dominating predictions for eliminations.

On last night’s broadcast, Chaz Bono was the lowest scoring dancer. At only a seventeen, Bono failed to earn the judges’ praise. But many fans thought the dance was much better than the judges had ranked it.

In comparison, Bono along with David Arquette and Carson Kressley were the two overall worse scoring dancers the first two weeks. David and Carson were only one score better than Bono last night while many fans and news critics thought they weren’t any better and arguably worse than Bono.

And while Elisabetta Canalis had one the top scores this week, she also dominated news predictions for eliminations tonight. Last week, Elisabetta Canalis failed to impress critics. And while she came back last night strong with a twenty-one, she – according to online prediction polls – is not winning a lot of support among television viewers.

So was it Kressley, Canalis, or Bono heading home tonight? Last night, Len said of Carson “If I held my knife and fork like you held Anna, I’d starve to death.” He also called Carson “the worst dancers on the show” last night. Bruno said the dancing was “entertaining” but lacked technique. Carrie Ann was more positive stating “it had good intent”.

In contrast, Canalis got a twenty-one last night but her comments from the judges didn’t seem to reflect that. Len said “It’s not great, but it was better than last week.”

So who was clearly the best dancer this week? The answer is probably JR Martinez. With a twenty-two, he was incredible. Len said “It was a great dance.” Bruno called it “the most satisfying overall performance of the night.” And Carrie Ann said “it was fantastic.”

But in the end, eliminated tonight was Elisabetta Canalis!

Cantaloupes Lead to Death in Missouri, Illness in California and Florida

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Cantaloupes have cause a death in Missouri and illnesses in Florida and California, health officials tell news tonight. Cantaloupes contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes had now killed over a dozen people and made dozens more sick. CDC confirms to news that the number of illnesses could still grow.

In a news briefing tonight, CDC says bad cantaloupes have caused thirteen deaths and seventy-two illnesses since the trouble was first reported this month. The culprit remains exclusively Jensen Farms. The grower located in Granada, Colorado produces the Rocky Ford cantaloupes that have caused illness or death in eighteen states.

CDC is advising residents to look for the unique labeling that indicates its Rocky Ford. A green and white sticker reads “Product of USA- Frontera Produce-Colorado Fresh-Rocky Ford-Cantaloupe or a gray, yellow, and green sticker that says: Jensen Farms-Sweet Rocky Fords.”

The FDA tells news tonight that if the fruit is unlabeled you should not consume it but bring it to the merchant to determine if it’s Rocky Ford. The fruit was sold from July 29 through September 10, 2011, however.

Adults who are in healthy condition are not prone to fatality after consumption. But the persons most at risk are the elderly, persons with weak immune systems, and pregnant women.

Deaths have now been found in Colorado (two), Kansas (one), Maryland (one), Missouri (one), Nebraska (one), New Mexico (four), Oklahoma (one), and Texas (two).

Andy Rooney Last 60 Minutes Episode Confirmed For Sunday

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The last Andy Rooney 60 Minutes episode will air this Sunday. Andy Rooney is leaving 60 Minutes after a run that started in 1978, CBS confirms to news tonight. After having delighted a generation with the opening expression “have you ever noticed”, Rooney is calling it quits.

Last year, Rooney told news that he had not intentions of retiring. He had expressed to reporters that he wished to continue his run until “he dropped dead”. Rooney’s exit follows departures of Mike Wallace and the late Don Hewitt.

In a news statement issued today, Jeff Fager, chairman CBS News and the executive producer of “60 Minutes”, says “His contributions to 60 MINUTES are immeasurable; he’s also a great friend. It’s harder for him to do it every week, but he will always have the ability to speak his mind on 60 MINUTES when the urge hits him.” He added “There’s nobody like Andy and there never will be. He’ll hate hearing this, but he’s an American original.”

What was Rooney’s first segment? CBS says he started “in July 1978 with an essay about the reporting of automobile fatalities on the Independence Day weekend.” He also appeared in silhouettes during the first season. “During the first season of the broadcast in 1968 he appeared a few times in silhouette with Palmer Williams, 60 MINUTES’ senior producer, in a short-lived segment called “Ipso and Facto.” Rooney also produced segments during the early seasons of ht show.

To date, Rooney has published sixteen books. Other notable programs he worked on were “The Twentieth Century,” “News of America,” “Adventure,” “Calendar” and “The Morning Show with Will Rogers, Jr.”
