Jeret Peterson Suicide Death Confirmed by Police

Jeret Peterson Suicide Death Confirmed by Police

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jeret Peterson has died of an apparent suicide. Jeret Peterson’s suicide was confirmed by local police to news Tuesday evening. Peterson killed himself Monday with a single gunshot, reports Salt Lake County police officials to news this afternoon. Peterson’s suicide was days after his arrest on  suspicion of DUI and speeding.

Salt Lake County, Utah tells KTVB that Jeret “Speedy” Peterson killed himself Monday evening. Investigators found Peterson in Lambs Canyon at 9:30 pm. Before his death, Peterson reportedly called police officials to inform them he was going to take his life. On Friday Peterson was arrested for suspicion of DUI and speeding.

Peterson was originally from Boise, Idaho. The aerial skier was part of three Olympic teams starting with the 2002 Games in Salt Lake. After a ninth place finish, he returned to Torino 2006. The day after his second jump, he was dispatched from the Games. Officials at that time said “He chose to do otherwise, and because of his unacceptable actions, his Olympic experience is ending early.”

But Peterson battled back. One month later he won the U.S. National Championships. He made the U.S. Olympic freestyle team for the next Olympics. There he would earn the silver medal.

But in a Mens’ Journal interview, Peterson confessed that in July 2007 he was suicidal. He told the publication that he admitted to his mother in July of 2007 that “I’m suicidal.” He eventually attempted suicide.

He had confided in others that he wanted to die. “I’m miserable and want to die” he told one friend at the time. “There was no difference between telling her I was going to kill myself and ordering dinner at a drive-through.”

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Send your love.

Casey Anthony Book Could Be Worth Less than Jose Baez Deal

Posted: July 26th, 2011 in Casey Anthony by LALATE

Casey Anthony Book Could Be Worth Less than Jose Baez Deal

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Casey Anthony book deal could be worth less than a deal for Jose Baez and Cheney Mason. While a Casey Anthony book deal has dominated news in recent days, if history repeats itself, Casey Anthony’s attorneys may end up getting the biggest publishing payday. Yet, the potential book that might end up selling more copies is one possibly by Roy Kronk or even Jan C. Garavaglia (aka Dr. G).

Casey Anthony has been the focus of reports about a potential TV news interview deal. But LALATE has detailed that big bucks will come, not from television, but from the publishing world. But could Anthony’s attorneys, individually, get bigger deals than their client? Yes, if history repeats itself.

Potentially the greatest indicator of the market value for Casey Anthony books is the O.J. Simpson case and those publishing deals (time adjusted). However, Simpson did not secure a publishing deal after his not guilty verdict, but many years later.

Simpson was reportedly paid an advance on “If I Did It” of $3 million. But years earlier, the attorneys on his case got paid the same amount, or even more. Robert Shapiro was reportedly paid $1.5 million. Johnnie Cochran got $2.5 million. But the biggest payout went to one of the prosecutors, Marcia Clark, at a whopping $4.5 million.

Could Baez end up getting an advance comparable to Marcia Clark? With market and time adjustments, don’t be surprised if Baez gets far in excess of a $5 million deal and Mason slightly less. Neither have confirmed any negotiations of a book deal.

But news reports claim that Baez has signed with literacy agent Richard Pine of Inkwell Management. Reports claim that Pine is currently shopping that deal currently. Baez confirms he has met with “various people”. But he would not indicate for what industry. Baez has reportedly been approached for salary positions as well, including a job as a television analyst.

And while the focus might be on Anthony’s book, the biggest seller might be from the people whose stories have yet to be fully told. OJ Simpson cop Mark Fuhrman was one of the most successful authors in the Simpson saga, explaining one of the most contested sets of facts from that trial.

Who might end up turning the most pages? Roy Kronk, George Anthony and especially Jan C. Garavaglia (aka Dr. G) could be the biggest sellers. They too have contested facts that have to be fully explained.

Dr G is potentially the mirror to explain to readers how Caylee Anthony died. Readers may turn away from books that work as soap boxes for Casey Anthony and Co. to tell their same defense story again. And readers may end up purchasing books that seek to answer questions into Caylee’s death.

Dr. Jan Garavaglia during the trial was concise, logical, easy to comprehend, and straight forward.

When asked how she had determined Caylee had died of a homicide, she said “three main items”. First, she said when a child is not reported immediately, that suggests something is wrong. She said a parent has a duty, and a natural reaction, to report their own loved one missing.

Second Dr. G said no child dies accidentally with duct tape on their face. Finally, Dr G told the jury that the location that Caylee was found suggested murder. Dr. G said that Caylee was “tossed in a field to rots in bags”. She added that the person who placed Caylee’s remains in the forest was trying to hide the body. Moreover “putting Caylee in a bag is indication for it to be hidden.”

Beyond reports of Baez securing a publishing agent, no other parties have yet confirmed they are pursuing book deals.

Mexico Earthquake Today, Terremoto, Shakes Baja California

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – An earthquake struck Mexico today registering near Baja California. Today’s earthquake (terremoto) was one of the strongest temblors to rock the region this summer. The quake follows an April 7 and May 5 earthquake that struck Mexico. No reports of injuries today have been given.

Today’s June 26, 2011 Mexico earthquake struck roughly one hour ago. At 11:44 am PST, a 5.9 earthquake struck with a nominal depth of six miles below the earth’s surface; its epicenter was in the Gulf of California.

USGS reports to news that the quake was registered roughly fifty miles southwest of Los Mochis, Sinaloa Mexico, eighty miles north of La Paz, Baja California, and eighty miles west of Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico. The quake registered west of Guasave and Guamuchil, northwest of Culiacan, and southwest of Obregon.

In October last year, the country was rocked by similar magnitude quakes, most making news with epicenters in Baja California. The quake registered a 6.9 and was roughly 80 miles from Los Mochis and 90 miles east of Las Paz.

In February, the country was struck by a 5.7 quake in Veracruz. In April, Mexico suffered a 6.5 quake fifty miles south of Coatzacoalcos, seventy miles north west of Chiapas, and eighty miles west of Tabasco.

In late 2010, the most common area for Mexican earthquake activity was in the north near the U.S. border, southeast of San Diego.

Philadelphia Eagles Face DeSean Jackson Hold Out, Kevin Kolb Trade

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Philadelphia Eagles today faced a
possible DeSean Jackson hold out and a Kevin Kolb trade. DeSean Jackson has yet to confirm that he will not show up to training camp. But Michael Vick tell news that a hold out could start  tomorrow. Meantime, Kolb is out, but his new home remains undecided.

DeSean Jackson may not report to training camp Wednesday, Michael Vick told news reporters today. Vick would not detail what was the basis of that knowledge. But Vick said he hopes DeSean Jackson will show up. “Hopefully, he’ll be here tomorrow,” Vick told news today. “DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.”

Drew Rosenhaus, Jackson’s agent, refused to confirm to deny Vick’s remarks. “I’m just being realistic about the situation,” Vick added. “It’s all in what DeSean wants. We’re moving forward and hopefully he’ll be here. I think he will.”

Earlier this month, Jackson was apologizing for his remarks during a radio telecast. Jackson used a slur during a broadcast of Sirius XM’s “All Out Show with Rude Jude and Lord Sear” on June 30.

“In a recent radio interview a caller got really confrontational with me,” Jackson said in a news statement this month. “I got very heated with the caller, took it a bit too far and did not mean to offend anybody. I meant no disrespect and a better choice of words was needed.”

Kolb’s future is still unclear. Some reports say Seattle. Others suggest Kolb will head to Arizona. The Arizona Republic says no deal is pending for Kolb with the Cardinals.

Tim Tebow Broncos New Starter; Carson Palmer Not Traded; Cowboys Make More Cuts

Tim Tebow Broncos New Starter; Carson Palmer Not Traded; Cowboys Make More Cuts

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Tim Tebow is the Broncos new starter, insiders contend today. Tim Tebow will be the Denver Broncos new starter after reports today that the Broncos will trade Kyle Orton. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora tells news that Orton could be traded to Arizona or Miami immediately.

Adam Schefter reports the same news about Orton and Tebow. He says that Orton has $9 million left on his contract. The trade could free up new cash for the Broncos looking to add an additional lineman. Orton has previously told the Broncos front office and news that he will not back up Tebow.

Elsewhere, Mike Brown says he will not trade Carson Palmer. Palmer originally told news that he wants to be traded, adding that if the Bengals don’t trade him, he will retire. Brown fired back today.

“I’m not expecting [Carson Palmer] to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment. He gave us his word. We relied on his word and his commitment.” He added “We expected him to perform here. If he is going to walk away from his commitment we aren’t going to reward him for doing it”.

Meantime the Giants have signed Mark Herzlich. He wrote on Twitter “The support is unbelievable. Keep it coming cannot wait to be a Giant. Trying to find Giants gear in Philly.”

And what does Michael Vick know? Vick tells news that he is usure if wide receiver DeSean Jackson will show up to training camp tomorrow. “Hopefully, he’ll be here tomorrow,” Vick told news. “DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.”

Cowboys have cut Leonard Davis, Marion Barber, and Marc Colombo; the Cardinals have cut Gerald Hayes; and the Giants could cut Rich Seubert.

Peyton Manning Neck Injury Prompts Colts Worries

Peyton Manning Neck Injury Prompts Colts Worries

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Peyton Manning’s neck injury and recent surgery is prompting concerns for the Colts. Peyton Manning is not confirmed ready for the Colts’ season opener, team officials tell news. Today Steve Young said Peyton Manning’s neck is a far bigger problem that originally perceived for the Colts.

“No one has done the position better” Young told news moments ago. Young said that if Manning can’t take the field, the Colts are in big trouble. First, Young says they have no one ready to replace Peyton. Second, Young says replacing Peyton on short notice could be close to impossible.

“If he is not on the field, the Colts don’t have another option. He holds the brain trust for how to operate the team. He has taken the offense beyond what other players can do…. [but] it brings a big question what is the future of the Colts if Peyton doesn’t play” Young told news.

How would the Colts replace Peyton short term? “The only way to replace Peyton is with someone who can carry all that data [in the brain] and replicate it.” Young told ESPN that “a young player can’t do.” Young asserts the Colts would have only one option. “They would need a older player, Peyton like”.

Manning had a first surgery in March 2010. They he had a second surgery in May 2011. At the time, his recovery period was suppose to be six-to-eight weeks. Manning has had an injury since at least 2006. The Colts told press in 2010 that “This condition has existed intermittently for the past four years, but at no time did it interfere with his training, practice or playing regime. While it never has affected Peyton’s activity on or off the field, the Colts’ medical staff, after post-playoff examination, thought it best to resolve the situation now.”
