MLS All-Stars vs. Manchester United: Beckham Battles Rooney

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – MLS All-Stars vs. Manchester United 2011 game (en vivo on ESPN2) will feature a battle between David Beckham and Wayne Rooney. But LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan will miss today’s game with that calf injury, reps tell news. Sir Alex Ferguson will have Dimitar Berbatov, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf all available.
Today’s MLS All-Stars vs. Manchester United could end in a good result for the MLS Stars, coach Hans Backe tells news. Backe says his squad has the experience that could define tonight’s match. “We have only one session with these guys, but they are experienced guys. Tons of experience.”
David Beckham however tells news that the game will be difficult. Beckham says any game against United is difficult, but enjoyable to play. But he adds “As much as we want to win the game it’s important that we enjoy it.”
For Beckham, today’s match follows a news conference in which he made it clear he wants to play for England in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Beckham told news that he didn’t want to be just an ambassador for England but also an ambassador for the sport.
Off the field, Wayne Rooney has dominated news this week for his legal battle with Proactive. Court of Appeal Lord Justice Sullivan said of Rooney this week “It’s a wonder he’s got time to play football, he’s making so many personal appearances. For Nike, for Coca-Cola. It’s a wonder he’s got time to practice.” Tonight’s match airs en vivo on ESPN2, start time 8:30 PM EST.
