LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The State of South California secession effort is underway. The State of South California, thirteen counties secede from California, is the “idea” of Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone. Stone wants his county and a dozen others to form their own state. While he explains to news this weekend his motivation for the effort, he does not explain how he came up with the peculiar name.
While Los Angeles residents have long referred to themselves as Southern California residents, that terminology would not be allowed if Mr. Stone has his way. Residents of State of South California would not include residents of Los Angeles County. He wants his the state to include only the counties of Riverside, Imperial, San Diego, Orange , San Bernardino , Kings, Kern, Fresno , Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono.
Why does Stone want a new state? Stone told the Press-Enterprise. “There is only one solution: A serious secession from the liberal arm of the state of California. I know the state of California can do better.” He hopes that education and taxes will improve after secession. His idea goes before the Riverside Board of Supervisors this month. No other county has yet to comment about his “idea”.
