USA vs. Mexico 2011 – Mexico Wins Gold Cup, Becomes Copa Oro Campeón

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Mexico is “Campeón de la Copa Oro 2011″ announced the USA vs. Mexico 2011 news broadcaster tonight after a stunning come-from-behind win by Team Mexico. USA vs. Mexico 2011 was an explosive soccer match that had six goals, four in the first half alone. Two Mexican soccer stars – Dos Santos and Barrera – gave their nation unprecedented explosiveness amid a faltering Team USA defense.
After days of predictions anticipating that Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) and Landon Donovan would be the stars of tonight’s soccer game, in the end, it was Giovani Dos Santos and Pablo Barrera who were the stars. Their patience, intuitiveness, and determination brought Mexico an exciting win Saturday from Pasadena before a sold out crowd.
Thousands had packed in the Rose Bowl to watch a showdown of international talents. But early on, Michael Bradley put team USA up ahead with a strong goal. A second goal came easily to Landon Donovan made the score 2-0.
The strength that came to team USA early on was not equaled in their defense. USA simply couldn’t handle the ball today. With few goal attempts, USA couldn’t get into scoring position by the middle of the first half. Chicharito also had numerous strikes, but none materialized, early in the first.
And yet, the patience of Team Mexico was obvious. Mexico was consistently stealing the ball, constantly dominating possession. The failures of USA’s defense were evident by the strength of the Mexican offense.
Finally, with Mexico down 0-2, Pablo Barrera delivered a goal for Team Mexico. Chicharito came back with a second to tie up the match before the break.
For USA, the game was effectively over. From there on out, USA rarely was in scoring position. If they got the ball, they couldn’t keep it.
The second half didn’t start as explosive as the first. But then, seemingly out of nowhere, Barrera was back with an angled strike that gave Mexico the lead. At that point, the Americans’ faces still showed signs of hope.
But late in the second half, a bizarre mistake drew Tim Howard out. The look of frustration set in. Chicharito immediately took possession. Javier gave a sharp assist to Dos Santos, and with an immediate attack to the left, Mexico was up 2-4. Moments later, the expression on Howard’s face said it all. The hopes of USA coming from behind were gone. In the end, Mexico would win with that final score of 2-4.
While Mexico won tonight, there were many more winners. The world of soccer, and especially its place in Southern California, was the biggest winner Saturday. Soccer in the Southland doesn’t get any better than this.
