CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The George Anthony suicide note prompted a new defense battle moments ago. The George Anthony suicide note was referred to by the defense on its direct of Casey’s father. But outside the presence of the jury, Jose Baez told the court moments ago that he did not want the suicide note put into the record. The State then told the Court that the prosecution would put the suicide note into record. The Court eventually ruled that, because Baez “opened the door as to the George Anthony suicide note”, it would allow the note to be introduced.
Baez’s motive today in bringing up the George Anthony suicide note was dramatically different than that of the State. Baez wanted to show George Anthony as trying to hide something, wishing to take his life out of guilt. Baez was ineffective in showing that the note indicated admission of guilt by George Anthony. The State, however, used the note to show that George Anthony is a loving grandfather who was tormented by the lost of a child.
The State, on cross, had George Anthony tell the jury about the note’s contents. Anthony wrote that he frustrated that Caylee was gone, that he had no answers about her death, and that he wanted to join Caylee in heaven. George Anthony told the jury that he couldn’t confess to Cindy, face-to-face, his desire to take his own life; instead, he wrote it in the suicide note.

“Did you put pen to paper?” the State asked Anthony. George Anthony detailed for the first time in this trial what the suicide note said. “I started to talk about … I wrote the specific letter to Cindy… to say how I felt, how I didn’t want to be in this world anymore.”
The State questioned further “Did you include in that letter questions you had about Caylee?” George Anthony said he wasn’t sure. “I don’t recall what I put… there were numerous pages… I probably repeated myself numerous times. I had to express myself what I was feeling.”
The State was effective in allowing George to explain his suicide note was directed towards his wife. “Did you want Cindy to know why you wanted to be dead n that letter?” Anthony answered “Yes because I couldn’t tell her to my face.”
George Anthony was the depiction of human pain today. But also taking to the stand earlier was Cindy Anthony. She was asked about alleged inappropriate actions of Lee Anthony.
Baez asked her “Do you recall several years back, that there was an incident of your son Lee going into Casey’s room at night?” Cindy Anthony answered with strong, firm, voice “no.” “Were you aware of incidents of Lee going into Casey’s room at night”? The question was not allowed.

Then Jose Baez went to a peculiar line of questioning. Baez asked Cindy why she thought Caylee was still missing, even after she cremated her remains. “Do you recall testifying six months that you believed still believed that Caylee was still alive?” She said “yes.” Cindy explained that, in February of 2009, she asked for Caylee’s remains to be cremated. Baez questioned Cindy, why after the cremation, Cindy Anthony still believed Caylee was alive.

In January 2009, George Anthony attempted to kill himself. A 911 call was made by attorney Brad Conway at the time. “George Anthony has been gone since 8:30 this morning and he has taken several bottles of medication from his house.” He was eventually found at Hawaii Motel on Ridgewood Avenue in Daytona Beach.
