Sean Kingston Female Passenger Omitted in Crash Coverage

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Details of Sean Kingston’s female passenger on his jet ski have been omitted from crash news coverage nationally. Sean Kingston’s reps told fans Monday that they thank them for their prayers for Sean. A quick perusal online reveals possibly no news statement issued asking for prayers and support for the female passenger.
The absence of news coverage for the female passenger in Sean Kingston’s crash bears a resemblance to absence of news coverage of Demaris Meyer, the victim in the Morgan Freeman car crash of 2008 initially “forgotten” by news and the celebrity’s rep in press statements.
Joe Carozza issued a news statement through Epic Records today which reads “Sean Kingston is now stabilized.” He later issued the news statement that “Sean’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”
On Sunday, Jorge Pino, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, confirmed to news that Kingston’s female companion was injured as well. Pino has yet to confirm if her injuries were serious, life threatening, or just nominal. Reps for the singer have confirmed that the singer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital at 6 pm EST after a crash into the Palm Island Bridge. But Pino did confirm that the female passenger, with Kingston, had to be rescued from the waters by Miami Fire Rescue yesterday evening.
In August 2008, actor Morgan Freeman was reported in a car crash with a female companion. No mention was initially given of the female passenger’s name, nor condition. As reported here at the time “press sadly felt there was only one person in this story to report about and their medical condition.” Later, Freeman’s spokeswoman Donna Lee issued a news statement thanking fans for their support and updating news about Freeman’s condition. But no reference was made to the condition, nor prayers, for Freeman’s female passenger. “He’s visiting with family this morning [Tuesday]. As of this morning he’s up and walking around and looking forward to his release in a few days” said Lee at the time.
Eventually, readers here would fume about the lack of news concern for Freeman’s female passenger. “Yes, that frustrated me too…….I don`t ever remember reading a story of a auto wreck like this one ever” wrote one reader at the time. Despite devoid news coverage and lack of updates from the celebrity’s publicist, readers issued their own prayers for both passengers, not just Freeman. “My prayers are with Demaris and Mr Freeman and all the family’s. God bless them all in this terrible time and hope for a fast recovery.”
Meyer eventually sued Freeman in February 2009 for injuries she suffered during the crash.
Reaction today has been similar. One reader commented “Any word on the female friend, or was she just not as important as…uh…Sean Kingston?!” Another wrote “So I guess the female passengers who also was critically injured is [less important]? The doctors are more focus on Sean Kingston?” And one reader responded “What about the girl though? [We] need an update on her as well.”
