LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Nastassja Bolivar won Nuestra Belleza Latina 2011 tonight, making television history along the way. Nastassja Bolivar (photos below) entered Nuestra Belleza Latina when its fifth season kicked off on March 6 this year. Bolivar was hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ana Patricia González, the 2010 winner. After becoming the “ganadora” of last year’s telecast, Ana Patricia González became a household name across the U.S. Tonight, Nastassja Bolivar is on track to doing the same.
In five seasons, Univision has achieved television history with Nuestra Belleza Latina, a fascinating mixture of reality TV competition programming mixed with national pride and international fans. With leading women representing their respective country, Nuestra Belleza Latina became a hit for Mexican fans after it achieved wins twice in the last five years.
But several days ago, LALATE predicted how two competitors, one from Colombia and one from Nicaragua, had a chance to make history tonight. Neither country had won the competition this half decade. And yet after weeks of various difficult challenges, Nicaragua’s chance to win seemed strong. Bolivar continued to win weekly challenges, progressively.
On the fifth episode, she won the Mini-Challenge. The next week she won the First Call-out. The week later she was winning again. She earned herself a dinner with Alejandro Chaban and a visit to the Mana concert. But despite consistently finishing atop the competition, the Nicaraguan beauty admitted she struggled with fear throughout the competition.
In week seven she won again. In week eight, she was only in third. And in week nine, she won Challenge of the week.
But in the semi finals elimination on May 15, Nastassja Bolivar was in trouble. She was sent to the bottom two. Unlike other reality shows, this one had a judges’ save option. Just about to be sent home, Nastassja Bolivar was saved by the judges.
But tonight, at twenty-two, Nastassja Bolivar won the biggest reality competition of its kind. The Miami native is single, doesn’t have a boyfriend and tells news her favorite past times are playing sports, especially soccer and volleyball.
As previously reported here, Bolivar tonight is $250,000 richer. In addition to her cash prize, she will now get a one year Univision contract. Previous winners have gone to appear on Sabado Gigante, Despierta America and El Gordo y La Flaca.
Tonight, fans are taking to her official Facebook page to send their congratulations / felicidades. One female fan wrote “congratulations to all of Nicaragua and Central America! We are all beautiful women.” And one male fan wrote “you will wear the crown as the good person, especially for Nicaragua and Central America!”
