Meredith Vieira Leaving TODAY, Ann Curry Promoted

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Meredith Vieira is leaving TODAY, Ann Curry is replacing Vieira, and Natalie Morales is replacing Curry at the newsdesk, claims news reports. Meredith Vieira’s departure comes after chatter that Matt Lauer could leave the program as well. TODAY is not confirming the latest news report from the Hollywood Reporter Thursday. The news publication claims that Meredith Vieira, after a five year position, will be departing.

Meredith Vieira, claims HR, has already agreed to leave TODAY in June after joining in 2006. Ann Curry will be promoted to replace Vieira and Natalie Morales will be promoted to take Curry’s position.

Continuity and fan loyalty will be upheld with TODAY using family faces from the morning program. For decades TODAY has been one of the biggest money makers in the NBC family of programming.

While NBC news is not confirming today’s reports, just days ago TODAY reps said that they hope to retain Vieira on TODAY. She will continue in her position as syndicated host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Kate Middleton Wedding Dress – Jessica Simpson Claims to Top

Kate Middleton Wedding Dress - Jessica Simpson Claims to Top

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Kate Middleton wedding dress for the Royal Wedding 2011 tomorrow is being topped by Jessica Simpson, at least so claims Simpson. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress pictures, designer, look, style and even inspiration have yet to be confirmed to news.

But Jessica Simpson is already telling news that her own wedding dress will be better.

Kate Middleton has given even the slightest suggestion of her wedding dress to news in advance of the 2011 Royal Wedding this weekend. But somehow, Jessica Simpson thinks she is going to win some bridal war of the wardrobe.

Simpson’s peculiar remarks came during news questioning by Access Hollywood. “Wait till you see my heels for the wedding!” she told the news broadcaster. When asked what he thought about this weekend’s royal wedding and Kate Middleton’s dress, Simpson responded “Oh, I can’t wait to see what Kate’s wearing, I can’t wait!” She added “But, I’ll out-do her!”

NFL Mock Draft – Mel Kiper Prediction Sends Cam Newton to Panthers

NFL Mock Draft - Mel Kiper Prediction Sends Cam Newton to Panthers

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Mel Kiper’s final 2011 NFL Mock Draft prediction anticipates Cam Newton will be the NFL’s first overall pick, heading to the Carolina Panthers. But will Cam Newton prove that he is not just as “entertainer and icon” but also a first round star? LALATE has previously predicted Cam Newton as its first round overall pick for tonight’s NFL Draft (start time 8 pm EST). But will there be a surprise this evening?

It’s irrelevant whether Newton will or won’t start this season. The same was said about last year’s draft quarterbacks. But after months of injuries, many of the nation’s top quarterbacks drafted last year, that we never thought would start, eventually did – at the Browns, at the Broncos.

Newton is unmatched at closing games. From week to week in December 2010, Newton was consistent cold in his first half but delivered second halves that shocked the senses. Against Alabama in December, Newton delivered only 97 yards passing in the first half, going 5 for 10. But Newton finished strong amassing three passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and delivered 216 yards, going 13 for 20.

For example, Auburn struggled in the Iron Bowl against Alabama during a first half showdown. But a commanding second half come-for-behind win gave Newton’s Auburn the win and a jump to number one in the BCS standings.

In recent months, Newton has trained with  private quarterback coach George Whitfield Jr. Whitfield last worked with Ben Roethlisberger during his 2010 suspension. Standing at 6′6” and 250 lbs, Newton has been trained well previously, with Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen, and finally Gus Malzahn.

But does the nation agree with Mel Kiper’s Mock Draft prediction (located HERE) for Newton?

Apparently not. ESPN’s Sportsnation currently puts Marcell Dareus, Alabama DT and AJ Green, Georgia WR far more likely to go first round to the Panthers than Newton.

LOS ANG

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – The Tuscaloosa, Alabama tornado (photos and video below) has taken the lives of thirty two residents reports local news. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama tornado is one of several deadly weather movements that have taken the lives of residents across the state in recent days. Officials now report that 128 Alabama residents have died, thirty-two in the city of Tuscaloosa, and as many as fifty people in four other states.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley tells news that the death toll may still increase in the coming days. Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox says that the infrastructure of his city has been devastated. In a news briefing last night Maddox told the nation to pray for his city. Today he is shocked that the damage and loss of lives wasn’t even more severe.

Maddox tells news that the size of the Tuscaloosa tornado was nearly six miles long and a mile wide. Roads are destroyed, outages are widespread. Maddox says that communities he has known his own life are now unrecognizable, flattened in the path of the deadly tornado.

Maddox says that at least a hundred people are injured, the loss of structures into the hundreds.

The President in a written statement to news today expressed his condolences while also commending the “heroic efforts of those … who … respond[end] to this disaster.”

Essential personnel should report to work as directed by their supervisors.” It added “Any UA employee who has experienced personal hardships as a result of the tornado should notify their supervisors.”

“Michelle and I extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives because of the tornadoes that have swept through Alabama and the southeastern United States,” said the President today.

American Idol Tonight – James Durbin Ignites Judges’ Winning Predictions

American Idol Tonight - James Durbin Ignites Judges' Winning Predictions

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – In American Idol results tonight, James Durbin was so good that all three judges gave the singer top predictions after his performance of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. On American Idol tonight, James Durbin was told by Randy Jackson that he “just might win the whole thing”, suggesting that Durbin has the potential to become your American Idol 2011. But is Randy correct? Tonight fans and news are asking the same question, if James Durbin has suddenly become one of the strongest of the remaining top six competitors.

Steven Tyler was so impressed by Durbin that he said “That’s the first song I ever made out to.” Lopez called it simply “magical”. For weeks, Durbin, less the subject of news coverage and more the subject of judges’ praises, has advanced steadily with top reviews in weekly results. Tonight that was much the same.

In recent weeks, James Durbin impressed the judges with his rendition of Uprising. Steven Tyler at the time gave it glowing reviews while Lopez said it was “theatrically … the best performance of the night”. While tonight Lopez said Durbin was magical, previously she remarked simply “Wow.” Randy Jackson agreed, calling it a stellar delivery.

“Dude you are unbelievable out there.”

On My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Saturday Night’s Alright, Durbin was consistently good. He impressed news critics for his delivery of Living for the City in earlier weeks. Steven Tyler and fans felt the performance was next to perfect. “It takes a little bit of crazy to make it in this world. You nailed it.” Jennifer Lopez added “You leave me speechless.” And Randy Jackson remarked “I love the note that you ended on.”

With Lopez repeatedly speechless about Durbin, Tyler calling Durbin inspiring, and Jackson rendering top praise week to week, James Durbin in early results tonight did much the same.

UA tells news that its “Student Recreation Center is available to students whose off-campus residences are damaged. Counseling services will also be available.” Power outages is causing longer lines. “Because of the power outages, Lakeside Dining is the only dining facility open on campus. Lines will be long, so please be patient.”
