LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – American Idol results, several weeks ago, eliminated Casey Abrams, but a judges’ save kept the talent on the show. Last night April 28, 2011, Casey Abrams didn’t hear the same sort of results that he heard weeks earlier. But in the end, Abrams was told in results last night that his time on the Idol stage had finally come to an end.
In the last week of March, Casey Abrams took the stage during a dramatic telecast. Quickly the March broadcast took a negative turn as Abrams was sent to the bottom three, and then voted off the show. In what became one of the most dramatic moments of this season, Abrams was given a sing-for-his-life chance to remain on the telecast. Abrams delivered a masterful performance prompting an unanimous save by all three judges, even before the song was finished.
Abrams was back in the competition. But backstage, he reported collapsed from the exhaustion. That same morning, Abrams had reportedly undergone his third blood transfusion.
Throughout the competition, Abrams made news about undergoing several rounds of blood transfusions. On March 11, he did the same. Several news reports claimed that Abrams suffered from an ulcerative coliti condition. Ryan Seacrest told viewers earlier in the competition “Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars are treating me real good.”
Since Abrams’ near elimination in March 2011, Idol producers have suggested that the 2012 season could have a different format for final determination. In a season in which Pia Toscano and Abrams have been eliminated, have viewers been burned by Idol results, or is popularity for the aging reality show in trouble? That remains to be seen.
But on April 26, 2011, the NBC premiere of “The Voice” delivered the biggest ratings for a new series premiere since the February 2010 airing of “Undercover Boss”. While Undercover Boss’ premiere followed the Super Bowl, the Voice drew ratings with virtually no lead-in program.
