Poplar Bluff Evacuation Issued, Black River Levee Compromised

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Following the St Louis tornado last weekend, Poplar Bluff is under evacuation at the Black River levee. As St Louis Lambert International Airport proceeds with cleanup today, Poplar Bluff Police Department tells news and residents that southern Poplar Bluff is under mandatory evacuation today.
The Black River levee near Butler County Road 607 is compromised, reports local police. Failure of the levy is imminent. The region has received five to ten inches of rain since last week. Many local rivers in the region are near their banks.

Elsewhere, St Louis’ Mayor Slay told news today “We received calls and tweets from across the country. Thanks for your offers, thoughts, prayers.” Locally in St Louis “all MetroLink and MetroBus are running scheduled service and routes this morning. All storm reroutes cancelled.”
Also in St Louis, MoDOT crews have closed sections of westbound Interstate 70 at St. Charles Rock Road.
