Japan Earthquake Today and Tsunami Warning Strike on Anniversary

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A Japan earthquake today and a tsunami warning, later cancelled, struck on the one-month anniversary of the March catastrophe. Today’s Japan earthquake was being reported by local news as a 7.1 magnitude while U.S. officials are reporting it as a magnitude 6.6. Today’s earthquake was located in the same general vicinity as the March quake, off the east of coast of Honshu.
U.S. news is reporting the quake today was centered twenty-two miles west of Iwaki, Honshu, forty miles north of Mito and only one hundred miles north of Tokyo. The quake registered a mere six miles in depth below the earth’s surface.
Today’s quake came on the one year anniversary of the deadly March catastrophe. Still to this day, hundreds of thousands of persons remain homeless while tens of thousands of persons remain missing and are believed dead.

Following today’s reported 7.1 magnitude quake, a tsunami warning and tsunami advisory were issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency. A tsunami warning was issued for the Ibaraki region. A tsunami advisory, in contract, was issued to news and local residents for the Miyagi, Fukushima and Kujukuri regions.
By five pm local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency told news that it had cancelled the warning and advisories for today.
