Chris Brown Dancing with the Stars Appearance Prompts Debate

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Chris Brown’s performance on Dancing with the Stars tonight was a hit for fans that have helped make Brown’s exceptional “F.A.M.E.” the number one album in the nation. But the performance drew disdain from critics, yet again.

Earlier today, Brown was avoiding any mention of isolated disapprovals of his return to ABC. Brown tweeted thank you’s to fans all day long. “I wanna thank all of my fans for making my album number 1 in the country!! I love you! We did it.” Previously, LALATE reported that Brown would this week top Billboard with his first number one album of his career.

Brown admitted his imperfections today. “When you have to grow up in front of the world it’s very hard to be perfect.” He added that he is grateful that his fans have stayed behind him. “I just wanna thank everyone who made this week possible!! And who stills supports my talent! I’m so thankful”.

Not everyone was so happy.

Among his critics were Dancing with the Stars’ Cheryl Burke and Tom Bergeron. Burke told Extra “As a victim of domestic violence, I don’t agree with him coming on the show, but it’s out of my control”. Bergeron told Ryan Seacrest “I did tell the producers it may be to their advantage to not have me interview him.”

Jalen Rose Mugshot Photo Released

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jale Rose’s mugshot photo was released today from his March 11, 2011 DUI. Jalen Rose was arrested for driving under the influence, in poor weather conditions, by Michigan police. Rose was in town to open the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy charter school, reports GossipCop.

Rose reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed. TMZ reports that the roads were icy at the time. Rose, 38, was issued a sobriety test after being questioned by police. Rose is represented by Los Angeles counsel Keith Davidson.

Rose has yet to comment about the matter, nor has he identified local counsel for the matter. He did tweet the following quote shortly after the release of the mugshot. “A positive attitude may not solve all of your problems but it will annoy your haters so much that it’s worth it” .

Kappa Sigma USC Scandal Hits the Roof

Kappa Sigma USC Scandal Hits the Roof

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – When scandal photos of a Kappa Sigma member hit the internet last Saturday, the reactions were mixed. Tonight, the story is headline news on Los Angeles broadcast television. And yet, despite the requests for interviews, USC is not speaking out this evening about one of the most publicized antics on campus in recent memories.

Photos posted online depicted a Kappa Sigma male member having relations with a female exhibitionist / companion on the “roof” of Waite Phillips Hall.

Students interviewed by broadcast news reporters tonight weren’t so sure it was even a scandal, one referring to it as a mild “prank”, another calling it “funny”. That is not how Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Denzil Suite referred to during an interview with the LA Times. Denzil said the trouble erupted when the male and female exhibitions set off the alarm system trying to access the roof.

In aerial footage released tonight,  TV news showed that the roof of Waite Phillips Hall is anything but a flat surface. In fact, a narrow rim or parapet surrounds the outer layer of the structure. Sunken out of sight are the structures’ cooling and heating systems. It’s on the parapet, not the roof, where the two exhibitions engaged in their activity.

So how did this Kappa Sigma member figure out how to even get through the building’s security system, let alone maneuver on the precarious parapet? That remains to be seen.  L.A. broadcast TV did indicate they have located the male but he has declined any interviews.

Suite gave a vague quote to the Times that USC is investigating the matter. But Suite added that the USC policies prohibit public disclosure of student disciplinary actions. The photos have been posted on LA Weekly, LA Curbed, and LA Taco, and imgur.com.

USC Kappa Sigma has confirmed the male as one of its members, suspending him, declaring his conduct was not becoming of their fraternity nor of a “gentleman”. Yes, it’s unbecoming of fraternity members, at least at Kappa Sigma, to be on the parapet of school buildings anything improper.

Matt Painter Mizzou Head Coach Decision Due Tomorrow

Matt Painter Mizzou Head Coach Decision Due Tomorrow

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Matt Painter’s Mizzou coaching deal has a deadline set for Wednesday, claims reports. Mizzou’s Mike Alden has told Matt Painter to make a decision by noon Wednesday if he is taking Mizzou’s offer as its next head coach, reports the St Louis Post Dispatch late today.

But will Painter decide tonight?

Indianapolis Star reporter Jeff Rabjohns yesterday told fans that Painter hadn’t decided. Today, Rabjohns reports the same. On Tuesday afternoon he updated “No decision from Matt Painter expected tonight, source said”.

In fact, fans and schools have been restless on the decision. Speculation and false reports haven’t helped. “I’m not ignoring the Twitter questions about Matt Painter/Purdue/Mizzou, but it’s a reporter’s job to report, not guess/predict, etc” added Rabjohns.

Bernie Miklasz, sports reporter for the St Louis Post Dispatch, has since updated that “Mizzou AD Mike Alden have asked Matt Painter to make decision by noon Wednesday.” Earlier Miklasz reported that a source stating that “[Painter has done] remarkable due diligence on Mizzou job”.

Is Painter likely to take the Mizzou job?

Two issues are possibly at play. First is the salary. Purdue has increased their package offer. Reports claim Purdue is up to $2.3 million, Mizzou is reportedly between $2 to $2.3. But that could change late today. “Purdue admits worked through the day to create an enhanced package for Matt Painter, including more overall program support” indicated a source to Rabjohns. Second, is the Painter’s reaction from the schools. Earlier today, Miklasz’s source reported “Painter … feels good about it; momentum on MU side at this point.”

EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Sheen Could Set Precedent

EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Sheen Could Set Precedent

EXCLUSIVE – LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Charlie Sheen is fond of the word “unconscionable”. Charlie Sheen used the word “unconscionable” during his UStream broadcast several weeks to describe his firing from Two and a Half Men.

But in a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday, Sheen’s attorney couldn’t stop using the word unconscionable either, LALATE can exclusively report. Sheen’s attorney Marty Singer kept on claiming unconscionability when describing Sheen’s contract with Warner Brothers Domestic Television. Singer argued before the Court that Warner Brothers didn’t just allegedly thrust an unconscionable arbitration provision against Sheen when he signed on for Two and a Half Men; Warner Brothers, so claimed Singer, repeatedly does that to other talent as well.

It’s not a normal sight to have a Hollywood actor’s dispute attract four industry-known attorneys into one Court. But then again, this is Charlie Sheen. On Monday, his attorneys came out swinging asserting that his former studio employer allegedly pushes on talent it seeks to hire a take-it-or-leave contact provision.

Sheen wants his dispute with the studio behind Two and a Half Men to heard before a Santa Monica Superior Court. But his contract calls for it to be decided not before a Court but in private arbitration.

Sheen will return to court on April 19, 2011 to try invalidate his arbitration provision with Warner Brothers. If Sheen wins a ruling that Warner’s arbitration provision customarily used with its talent is unconscionable, Sheen could potentially set up a major precedent for future talent disputes with Warner Bros Television.

Of course, Sheen has own unique way to describe the situation in more simpler words for us all. He said of his dispute, via UStream this Spring, that “What has occurred, yes, in fact is a completely and entirely illegal and unconscionable act. Or, to quote my lawyer, ‘really sh—y sh—y s-ck s-ck.’”

Amber Portwood, Gary Shirley House Hunting in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley are moving to Los Angeles to further their careers, claims reports. Amber Portwood move to Hollywood comes months after she told a Madison Court that she is a major “television personality”.

In the coming weeks, Shirley and Portwood are set to head to LALATE’s Santa Monica to meet with Teen Mom executives at MTV. But Radar Online reports that Portwood and baby daddy Shirley are staying longer in Los Angeles to look for new homes.

Just this spring, Portwood battled her own round of leaked scandal pictured online. “I’m devastated that these pictures were stolen from my phone and sold by someone I trusted” said Amber. “It makes me sad that anyone would do this, and I’m horrified that something so private is being shared publicly” Portwood said at the time.

Portwood has been relatively hush about her career moves. As previously reported on LALATE, Portwood has gotten appearance offers for music executives. But for now, Portwood is happy, and her bank account is full, from being a “television personality”.

Magistrate Steven Chase asked Portwood what exactly is a “television personality”. Portwood responded, that for her, it’s someone who makes $140,000 … every six months.
