ST LOUIS (LALATE) – The shooting at West Middle School in Martinsville has ended in an arrest. West Middle School in Martinsville, Indiana went on lockdown after the school shooting Friday morning. Morgan County Sheriff’s department tells news that the shooter is in custody.
Terror erupted at Martinsville, Indiana today after an alleged fifteen year-old came on campus and began firing. One person was shot. Medical response quickly airlifted the victim by LifeLine helicopter to Methodist Hospital reports local news affiliate WTHR.
The Mayor confirmed that a 15 year old was taken into custody as the believed shooter. Morgan County officers told news as of 8:30 AM EST that they were still searching West Middle School for possible accomplices.
The shooting began during the early hours of school after gunfire erupted outside the school’s cafeteria. Morgan County police have yet to identify the victim, the victim’s condition, or if the shooting was a targeted, random, or accidental discharge.
Unconfirmed news reports from Morgan County police say the suspect may have been recently expelled.
Roughly six hundred students were on campus Friday. “Mrs. Suzie Lipps, principal, and Mrs. Melody Meyer, assistant principal, take pride in making West Middle School a great place to learn and develop necessary skills to prepare students for high school” says the school’s website.
No school official has yet to comment on the shooting. No reports have yet to confirm if the victim was a student, staffer, or school official.
UPDATE: 9 AM EST – the victim is a fellow student, the hit was allegedly targeted, and the alleged motive was a dispute at last weekend’s dance.
