CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Winsome Packer’s lawsuit against Rep. Alcee Hastings claims the Florida Democrat sexually harassed her. Winsome Packer has also named Fred Turner as a co-defendant, claiming that Turner told her she would be fired if she objected about the alleged Hastings conduct.
Hastings has been a member of Congress since 1992. But the lawsuit claims the 74 year old divorcee touched Winsome Packer, made sexual remarks, even invited himself to her hotel room.
The suit filed this week in the U.S. District Court in Washington asserts the alleged conduct went on for two years in which she was “forced to endure unwelcome sexual advances, crude sexual comments and unwelcome touching”.
Hastings in a statement to news calls the lawsuit just bizarre. “I am insulted that these ludicrous allegations are being made against me,” Hastings said in a statement. “When all the facts are known in this case, the prevailing sentiment will be, ‘How bizarre!’
Packer says she suffered “emotional distress, anxiety and humiliation’’ along with “severe health problems” and lost income from being forced out of her “prestigious position.” She is seeking alleged unpaid salary, punitive damages, and other valued damages.
“I will win this lawsuit,” Hastings added in his statement. “That is a certainty. In a race with a lie, the truth always wins. And when the truth comes to light and the personal agendas of my accusers are exposed, I will be vindicated.”
