Iphigenie en Tauride Reunites Susan Graham and Plácido Domingo

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The famed opera Iphigénie en Tauride today achieves a goal never envisioned by Cluck two hundred thirty years ago. Iphigénie en Tauride will be aired live across U.S. movie theaters Saturday, bringing the New York-staged opera to America’s heartland, enchanting audiences from coast to coast. With start time at 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST, Iphigénie en Tauride features the reunited Susan Graham and Plácido Domingo in their famed roles. Also returning is the beloved tenor Paul Groves.
When Iphigénie en Tauride took to the stage in Paris in 1779, it became Christoph Willibald Gluck’s fifth opera for the French stage. A German staging two years later became Gluck’s last opera before his death.
And while Iphigénie en Tauride was a hit in 1916 season of the New York Metropolitan Opera, it did not return until 2007. This year it was updated and reintroduced to New York audiences. New York news critics have praised it ever since.
Today’s Iphigénie en Tauride live performance is part of the Met’s “Live in HD” series. Much like telecasts of recent sporting events, today’s opera will be simulcast live into movie theaters. Patrick Summers conducts.
