Melissa Molinaro Replaced with Debi Nova for Latin Market

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Melissa Molinaro has been replaced with Debi Nova for “SuperEstrella”, a Latin re-shot version of “Super Cute” for Old Navy. Debi Nova doesn’t appear in the Old Navy commercial looking like any notable reality TV (or telenovela) star, in the U.S. or Latin American TV markets. Rather, Nova appears as herself, far in contrast to how Old Navy treated the English version of their new ad spot.
When Latin American viewers turn their dial to see “Super Cute”, they will find out this month that Old Navy has renamed the hit song to “SuperEstrella”. The translation jump is unexplained. And while the choreography is unchanged, the casting and music video’s appeal has changed.

This week, Old Navy and Molinaro through their Twitter and Facebook posts marketed the English language “Super Cute” as referencing Kim Kardashian. Molinaro, who doesn’t normally look like Kardashian, was styled with makeup and hairstyles Kardashian-esq.

When it came time to take the music video to Latin markets, Old Navy didn’t continue its look-alike marketing approach. Rather they simply went with Warners recording star Debi Nova. The Costa Rican native of Polish and Jewish decent last year appeared on Dancing with the Stars.
Her 2004 track One Rhythm went to number one the Billboard Hot Dance charts. Her song Drummer Boy went to number five on the charts last year as well.
