LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Walter Lawrence Dalie has been arrested in the Brent Stapleton Tobey murder. Local news confirm that Dalie has been arrested, solving what had been a 33 year old cold case. Walter Lawrence Dalie was 19 years old when he alleged stabbed to death Tobey on Nov. 20, 1978.
Tobey was a Laguna Beach architect. He was also prominent in city government sitting on multiple local boards.
Previously Tobey had been saddened by the murder of his friend Albert Willard. In November 1978, James Scramlin of Laguna Beach was convicted of the Willard’s murder. On November 20, 1978, Tobey and his roommate were to go out for dinner to celebrate Scramlin’s murder conviction. But when Tobey’s roommate came home, he found Tobey stabbed 17 times from the back and in the head.
Walter Lawrence Dalie was one of the police’s first suspects. He was thereafter released. Dalie went to Dana Hills High School. In 1985 he killed his girlfriend in Connecticut. He was sentenced to fifty years in prison.
No trial date has been set for Dalie.
