ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Today’s Solar Flare 2011 is not only generating amazing photos but also generating a damaging geomagnetic storm from the U.S. to China. But now the situation is worsening. NASA says the flare over the next few days could be the strongest in four years.
The National Weather Service issued a news advisory hours ago; from Thursday to Sunday expect a high chance of significant geomagnetic storm activity lasting one to two days. As a result of the sun’s activity, the weather service tells news that shortwave radio, amateur radio, and ship to shore signals may be impacted. Even GPS could be affected.
NASA tells news that the flare is specifically coming from the Sun’s southern section. But after a series of M-class and C-class flares of lesser magnitude earlier this week, NASA is warning X-class flares through the weekend.
Radio communications interruptions are not just been warned but also being reported. Sections of Southern China have reported outages and interference Thursday morning.
