SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (LALATE) – Red Sismica de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico’s Seismic Network) reports a 3.9 earthquake struck the island today. Today’s Puerto Rico earthquake (terremoto) is being reported as 4.0 earthquake by USGS and as a 3.9 temblor by Red Sismica. But both the Red Sismica de Puerto Rico and USGS are reporting no threats of tsunamis this evening.
Today’s Puerto Rico earthquake struck around 7:41 PM local time in a region southeast of Guanica, southeast of Laja, and southeast of Mayagüez. Initial news reports put the quake’s depth as average, roughly twenty miles below the earth’s surface.
The quake was reportedly centered only six miles for La Parguera and Pole Ojea, close to Bentaces. It was approximately seventy-seven miles west of San Juan. No reports of damage have been given. Initial mapping shows the quake centered on land near Finca Juanita, south of intersection of highways 305 and 303, and east of Maguayo.
Local news has yet to indicate any extensive damage or injuries.
In December Puerto Rico was hit by a 5.4 earthquake. But in May, Puerto Rico was struck by a 5.8 earthquake located closest to Moca, Aceitunas, and Hato Arriba.
