CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Is the Post Office open on Martin Luther King Day? Is there mail delivery and service on Martin Luther King Day, January 17, 2011? That answer is no.
There will be mail tomorrow January 18.
Each year, the United States Postal Service publishes their Postal Holiday. The 2011 Postal Holidays follow federal guidelines. In some cases, adjustments are made as to when the holiday is observed.
Today, the Post Office will be closed and no mail delivery will exist. The same will be the case on Monday February 21 for Washington’s Birthday and Monday May 30 for Memorial Day.
Additionally, federal, state, and local government offices will be closed; courts will be dark; government agencies will be closed; and federal employees will have the day off. Commercial businesses (malls, movie theaters, and mass transport) will all remain open with many offering deep retail discounting today.
Just days ago, , the United States Postal Service made news for announcing this year’s stamps. In a news statement, the United States Postal Service said this year’s stamps will pay tribute to “former President Ronald Reagan, legendary author Mark Twain, award-winning actor and actress Gregory Peck and Helen Hayes, and Latin music giants Selena, Carlos Gardel, Carmen Miranda, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz.”
Next week, the Post Office will also unveil a major new offering. “The Lunar New Year: Year of the Rabbit stamp, to be issued Jan. 22, will be a Forever Stamp for use in mailing a 1-ounce letter.”
