LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Elton John and David Furnish are parents. Elton John and David John welcomed son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John born on Christmas Day. Furnish and John’s son was delivered by surrogate.

Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John is the couple’s first child.

Furnish and John had attempted adoption previously but that drew difficulties because of rules regarding the parents’ age. John is 62 years old.

The couple’s child was born in California, the mother’s identity not revealed. Furnish and John have been married for five years. They have yet to indicate if the son will be raised in California or in England.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this special moment. Zachary is healthy, doing really well,” they said in a news statement issued to OK Magazine Monday. “And we are proud and happy parents.”

They aren’t the only celebrities to welcome a child over Christmas. Singers Souleye Mario Treadway and Alanis Morissette also welcomed their first child, son Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Was the Amber Portwood alleged battery of Gary Shirley staged? Amber Portwood was arrested on felony domestic battery against Shirley this week. The charge comes out of the notable incident that was televised in the hit reality show “Teen Mom” that airs on MTV, the network notable for the fake and staged reality show “The Hills”.

But was the alleged battery between Portwood and Shirley staged?

A new report says Portwood will claim in her criminal case that the scene was completely staged and scripted by series producers for a TV broadcast. The Enquirer claims that Portwood will assert that she was paid $1000 additional on top of her base salary to “get physical” with Shirley. Portwood will allegedly assert that the show is “known to stage scenes”.

The paper claims “They told her that she and Gary were the most popular couple on the show and that they would pay her extra to provoke a fight. Amber says Gary didn’t know about it because they wanted a ’spontaneous’ reaction from him”. MTV and Portwood have yet to comment on the case.

Madison County has charged Portwood with two felonies Monday – one for domestic battery against Shirley and one for neglect of dependent. Portwood has yet to comment about the matter.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A suspension for Brett Favre in the Playboy Jenn Sterger (photos below) scandal investigation is becoming less likely with the season ending and Favre still having an appeal option against any NFL ruling. When the Jenn Sterger matter started, the timeline for Goodell to make a determination seemed to be four to six weeks.

Such has not been the case.

Now with two games left in the regular season, the Vikings ranked third in their division, and Favre still with an appeal option, the enforcement of any possible suspension ruling is seeming more unlikely against the quarterback.

“We are going through that and we are making sure we understand all the facts” said Goodell of the matter previously. Goodell has refused to give a timeline for the matter that has taken longer than other recent NFL scandal investigations.  The Favre investigation began October 8, 2010 and still doesn’t have a resolution. The Ben Roethlisberger investigation began on March 5, 2010 and had a Roger Goodell resolution by April 21, 2010.

Goodell might rule tomorrow or Wednesday as some websites are speculating tonight. But even if he does, there still might not be enough time to enforce any possible suspension ruling against Favre.

But once Goodell makes a determination, if the ruling is a suspension, Favre would have 10 days to appeal. Even then, it remains unclear how soon Favre’s appeal could be heard, and how soon the NFL could enforce any action against Favre if he lost his appeal.

Goodell reportedly met with Sterger last week. Yahoo News claims the meeting lasted two hours and was “heated at times”. But Jenn Sterger didn’t promptly grant her interview at the beginning of this matter like Favre did. Since then, Sterger has ironically fumed about the NFL taking too long.

Sterger’s manager, Phil Reese, had said Sterger wants the investigation to be done during the regular season. That may not happen. “Everything we’ve seen over the last day and a half has been very, very troubling,” said Reese. “I would certainly hope that the NFL would move quickly on this given that the season is coming near to its end,” added Sterger’s lawyer.

What does Favre know about the timeline? Favre told NFL Network’s Steve Mariucci that the NFL hasn’t contacted him since his interview months ago. “To be honest with you, Steve, I mean, I haven’t heard a word”.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Souleye Mario Treadway (pictures below) and Alanis Morissette welcomed a son … on Christmas. Souleye aka Mario Treadway and Alanis welcomed a baby boy over the holidays named Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway.

This is the couple’s first child.

The two began dating in October last year, married in May and confirmed their marriage to news in June this year. They said at the time “We’re very excited to embark on this journey with each other”.

As of 2008, Alanis’ debut album Jagged Little Pill remained the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S. history. It also remains the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history while RIAA reporting that she remained the highest selling female rock artist. In a statement issued to LALATE in June 2008 concerning “Flavors of Entanglement”, Morissette said “I often write in retrospect, but this time all was written in real time. This record helped me through some fragile moments. Every song was like a life raft.”

Souleye’s album Intergalactic Vibes produced by Sleepyhead was described as “Positive Intergalactic Hip Hop, Smooth Lucid And Full of Love”.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian are planning a wedding; Rimes and Cibrian confirmed their engagement Monday. LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian got engaged over the holidays.

It was only one month ago that Rimes fumed against an incorrect “exclusive” report by E! Entertainment News that Rimes and Cibrian were engaged. Rimes at the time said she was not engaged but furious. E! said that Rimes was allegedly furious the “engagement news leak[ed]“.

Rimes, 27, and Cibrian, 37, confirmed their engagement today while PEOPLE reported that Rimes was wearing a 5-carat diamond engagement ring in Malibu. The singer also took to Twitter to thank her fans.

In June of 2009, Brandi Glanville, Cibrian’s then wife, said of LeAnn the following. “LeAnn …  refuses to leave us alone – it is shameful and scary. People are going to say it takes two to tango and I get that, but at some point LeAnn needs to stop asking him to dance.” She said the following about her then husband “Eddie … has been an absentee father. Eddie’s displays of poor taste have hurt our two children”.

LeAnn and Eddie met while filming new Lifetime made for TV film Northern Lights. In March 2009, amid allegations that Rimes was falling for her co-star, she issued the following statement “This is a difficult time for me and my loved ones, but I appreciate all your continued support. I would like to assure all of you that this is a place for you to hear things directly from me and as you all know, not everything in our lives is always black and white.”
