SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (LALATE) – Red Sismica de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico’s Seismic Network) is reporting no threat a of tsunami today. The Red Sismica de Puerto Rico, however, is reporting that the terremoto registered a 5.4 magnitude. That is in contrast to the 5.1 magnitude reported by the USGS today. The quake happened as local residents prepare for Navidad.
Both the Red Sismica de Puerto Rico and USGS reports that WC/ATWC governs tsunami threats in Puerto Rico’s region. Both organizations are reporting that no Tsunami Information Statement has been issued by the WC/ATWC today.
Red Sismica is reporting the quake struck at 7:43 pm local time today and was 1.3 KM west of Aguas Buenas and 9 km south of Guaynabo. Consistent with USGS reporting, Red Sismica reports the terremoto had a significant depth of 102 KM.
Mapping provided online by Red Sismica indicates the eastern section of Puerto Rico felt a 5.0 magnitude with the western section not experiencing any notable shaking.
