Jessie Lunderby Photos Scandal Dominates Year in Review

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jessie Lunderby, who posed for Playboy photos only to lose her job as a jail officer, is dominating multiple Year in Review summaries of the biggest news scandals of 2010. Jessie Lunderby was the detention officer at an Arkansas jail who found out that posing for Playboy pictures, whether or not you disclose it to your employer, might amount to a violation of one’s employment code of conduct.
This week, Jessie Lunderby is being remembered as among the news scandals in which the public supported the employee despite what the employer eventually ruled on the situation. The scandal broke in June 2010 when Arkansas news reported that a Washington County prison guard had been placed on paid administrative leave. At issue was a Playboy Magazine spread.
Maj. Rick Hoyt of the Washington County sheriff’s office confirmed news that Jessie was the employee under an internal investigation.

Prison officials were quick to denounce Lunderby’s photos as a violation of workplace codes of conduct: conduct unbecoming an officer or employee, not getting permission for off-duty work, not engaging in certain types of jobs, and a policy addressing sexual conduct.
When the news scandal first broke, it sounded distinctly similar to another scandal one year earlier. When Casa Robles’ teacher Carlie Becker confirmed she was Playboy’s Carlie Christine in 2009, she too faced workplace backlash. Becker was a cheerleading coach. When some of her girls didn’t make the team, their parents dropped copies of Becker’s magazine spread on the principal’s office.
In Lunderby’s case, news reports were never clear what exactly caused the prison officials to fume. Lunderby’s job placed her close to prison inmates; but they clearly didn’t have access to the magazine.
One year earlier, Becker said code of conduct is discretionary, and should never been up to one person’s opinions. “I understand that morals are a subject of opinion, and although parents may have different opinions than I, they’re entitled to those. As far as [whether] the job can be based on someone’s opinions of morals, I don’t know that that is true.”

By summer 2010, Lunderby was furious to find she was being suspended from work. Lunderby eventually won the support of her community, women, and even a Hollywood agent.
So where is Lunderby now? She’s taken a job at Hooters and is represented by GC Marketing for which she does promotional events. “I love working promotional events because I love meeting new people and traveling to unseen destinations.” She’s worked the Playboy Golf Tournament and has been a representative Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion.
