Tito El Bambino Preps Invencible

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Tito El Bambino says Invencible (Invincible) is almost ready for February. Tito El Bambino says Invencible will be ready for a February 8, 2011 launch after final touches. “[I’m] in the studio working on the finishing touches on Invincible. Too much music” twittered the hitmaker last night.

Earlier this year, LALATE called Tito El Bambino one of the finest music talents today. In 2010, he became the most nominated artist in Latin Billboard Awards’ history. He received 18 nominations for his album El Patron, the most ever since the awards show started in 1990. He would eventually pick up 7 trophies including song of the year for “El Amor”. He followed that up with the runaway smash single “Te Pido Perdon”.

But now, Tito is focusing on finishing his latest entry. “Already in Puerto Rico in the studio ready to finish “Chequea Como Se Siente” (Check how you feel) off Invencible”.

The album will feature work with Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel and J-King & Maximan “El Patrón” tells news “”We are completely focused on what the new disc will begin to raise awareness at concerts in January … We are happy and hopefully it will be well received.”

Cam Newton Named Manning Award Finalist

Cam Newton Named Manning Award Finalist

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Cam Newton has been named a Manning Award finalist. Cam Newton, who remains the Heisman front-runner, added the Manning Award nomination this week after Auburn moved up to number 1 in the BCS Rankings.

The Manning Award nominees also include Andy Dalton, TCU; Colin Kaepernick, Nevada; Andrew Luck, Stanford; Ryan Mallett, Arkansas; Kellen Moore, Boise State; Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State; Denard Robinson, Michigan; Darron Thomas, Oregon; and Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State.

The question is whether Cam Newton’s award season will match that of Colt McCoy last year. Last year, McCoy won the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Player of the Year Award, Maxwell Award (nation’s top player), Davey O’Brien Award (nation’s top QB) and Unitas Golden Arm Award (nation’s top senior QB). He was a unanimous All-America selection, a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, and won the Manning Award. He also picked up Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the fan-voted AT&T All-America Player of the Year award.

Tim Tebow won the Manning Award in 2009 and Matt Leinart in 2005.

Archie Manning in a news release this week said “What a year it’s been for quarterbacks in college football. We have seen so many outstanding performances all over the country. There are five or 10 more guys who could easily have been among our finalists, but we are very pleased by this group of 10 players.

“We’re very excited to follow these 10 young men through the bowl season and then decide which one is the best in the nation.”

Ryan Seacrest Could Get Record Label

Ryan Seacrest Could Get Record Label

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Ryan Seacrest could get a record label. The Ryan Seacrest record label is part of a new Clear Channel contract deal to be announced Tuesday, claims reports. Seacrest is under a three year $35 million contract inked in 2008. In recent months, reports said Seacrest might go elsewhere when the contract expires. But on Tuesday, the New York Times reports Seacrest and Clear Channel will announce a new three year deal worth $60 million.

While terms of the deal will be confirmed later today, the Times reports the deal will feature old and new media ventures. Among them, Seacrest will create new radio content that will air both live, through radio syndication, and online.

But the newest entries will be a live concert series, a music publishing arm, and even a record label. Under the contract renewal, Clear Channel and Seacrest will establish a joint venture to pursue these and other music endeavors, reports the Times.

Seacrest will stay with Los Angeles station KIIS-FM with his five-hour daily “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” program. But his afternoon syndicated program will grow from three to four hours.

Television entries were not discussed in the report.

In recent years, Seacrest has had gold with Kardashian-programs. Other series have not done as well. His MTV “Bromance” and NBC “Mammas Boy” were  both ratings failures. “Living Lohan” and “Denise Richards It’s Complicated” were panned by critics. Seacrest’ Richards show got a “D” from Entertainment Weekly; the Boston Herald called Richards’ show  “one steaming pile of [junk]…Literally”.

Derek Anderson Postgame Interview is No Laughing Matter

Derek Anderson Postgame Interview is No Laughing Matter

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Derek Anderson’s postgame interview tirade (video below) followed his Deuce Lutui laughing sideline bit called out by Jon Gruden. Derek Anderson during the postgame conference was asked by Arizona Republic reporter Kent Somers, not once, but over three times about his laughing episode with Lutui.

Viewers thought the reporter went a bit too far. “The reporter was just waiting for something he could use to write something bad about Anderson. And he got it” wrote on viewer on  YouTube.

ESPN’s reporter Jon Gruden began the saga during the telecast. After seeing Anderson and Lutui “laughing”, Gruden said “One of the things I don’t like to see, walking down on these sidelines, is the demeanor sometimes of the players on the bench when you’re playing bad. When you’re down 18 points and you’ve had five first downs, I want it to bother you .”

Also, Gruden had noted that stadium attendees booed off the Cardinals at halftime. By the end of the evening, Anderson went 16 of 35 for 196 yards, losing 27-6 at home against the 49ers.

So why was Anderson “laughing”? Somers could have asked the question once. And Anderson could have answered it with a “no comment”. But both Anderson and Somers went at it.

“What Deuce and I talk about is nobody else’s business!” Anderson exploded. “Why was something funny when you’re down 18 points in the fourth quarter?” asked Somers. “It wasn’t funny, I wasn’t laughing!” said Anderson. Somers jumped back . “The cameras showed you [laughing]“.

And then came the tirade.

“I’m telling you right now what I do every single week! Every single week I put my heart and soul into this! “I don’t go out there and laugh. It’s not funny. Nothing’s funny to me. I don’t want go out there and get embarrassed on Monday Night Football in front of everybody.”

“That’s fine, that’s fine, that’s fine. That’s fine. I’m not laughing about it. You think this is funny? I take this … serious. Real serious … I put my heart and soul into this … every single week. … I study my a** off. I don’t go out there and laugh.”

Kurt Warner later defended Anderson on twitter. But after the Gruden call-out, the Somers battle, and the self-inflicted tirade debacle, Anderson clearly had his own Randy Moss moment of the week.

Marinette High School Hostage Situation - Wisconsin Student Shoots Himself

MARINETTE, WIS (LALATE) – The Marinette High School hostage-taker shot himself late Monday. Following resolution of the Marinette High School hostage situation, in which Wisconsin teacher Valerie Burd and 23 of her 10th grade students were released safely, police move in.

Police now say that Valerie Burd and her students helped solve their own hostage situation. The hostage-taker, a 15-year old male, refused to speak to the teacher during the hostage ordeal, telling her to be quiet. Among the hostages were many of the hostage-takers best friends.

Five of them plotted their escape by asking to use the restroom. They ran for safety once outside the door.

The remaining students have since told news that they were very afraid at first. But quickly they started to talk to the hostage-taker about going hunting and fishing. That worked, said the student-hostages, building their confidence to end their ordeal. The hostage-taker even began to laugh. The students were unable to achieve what law enforcement tried for three hours to do; the students were able to obtain communication with the hostage-taker.

Finally in the late evening, the hostage-taker released all the remaining students and teacher Valerie Burd. After everyone was out safe, SWAT moved in at roughly 8 pm. Upon their entry, the hostage-taker shot himself. Police have yet to release details of the shooting. Police confirm he suffered a single gunshot wound. The boy remains hospitalized, his condition unknown.

Even though school officials first reported the hostage taking at 3 pm local time, the hostage situation began between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Students were sitting in sixth-period Western Civilization class learning about Greek mythology when the hostage-taker said he was sick, left the room and returned with a “bag of guns” and began firing. No persons were injured, the film projector was smashed.

Police had told news all evening that the hostage-taker had one gun.

When they moved it, their learned that to be incorrect. The boy had two guns, and fired from both, a .22 caliber and a 9 mm semiautomatic.
