MAUI (LALATE) – A Maui earthquake (maps below) Tuesday evening struck near Wailuku. The Maui earthquake did not result in any major reported damage indicates local news today. The earthquake struck at 6:34 PM local time and was 10 miles southwest of Wailea, 30 miles southwest of Wailuku, 30 miles southeast of Lanai City, and 45 miles west of Hana. The earthquake was of nominal depth, only 11 miles below the earth’s surface. It registered 4.7 magnitude.

The earthquake was followed by another quake registering 3.3 magnitude. It was centered 16 miles west of Hawi, 18 miles west of Kapaau, and 19 miles northwest of Puako. It reported nominal depth as well.

Underway at the time was the EA Sports Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center. Officials for the Lahaina Civic Center reported no damage. The Kentucky vs Washington game had six minutes left in play at the time. Kentucky coach John Calipari was surprised to learn that an earthquake had hit, calling “aw, nothing”. Other players joked the basket had been moving, not just then, but all night.

NEW YORK (LALATE) – Michael Brea of “Ugly Betty” (photos below) used a Freemason sword as he shouted Mason scriptures. Michael Brea was obsessed with Freemason concepts (also described as Masons for God) claim local news today. The sword he killed his mother with was a Masonic ceremonial sword. Brea believed his mother had recently been overtaken by Satan. So he began to attack her with a three foot long Masonic sword, shouting scriptures at her.

Where did he get the sword from?

His uncle told investigators that the sword was taken from a Masons meeting Monday evening. And while Michael Brea believed his mother was overtaken by Satan, today his uncle is telling the New York Daily News that it was Michael Brea, instead, who was overtaken by Satan. Brea’s uncle says “The Devil entered [Michael]“.

Michael Brea during the attack shouted “Repent! Repent! Repent!” After the murder, Brea continued to shout Scriptures including  “architect of the universe”. He added “When I looked at my mother, I saw the devil.”

Family and friends are shocked by the killing. They say that Michael Brea was successful, well loved, well off, quiet, extremely intelligent, and had a wonderful relationship with his mother. They also say that police waited too long to get into the apartment in the Prospect Heights section of New York.

“You never accepted Jesus!… Sinner, sinner” shouted Brea inside the room. His mother, Yannick Brea, 55, was found in a kneeling position, decapitated and butchered to death.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Brett Favre scandal investigation is not quieting as Playboy’s Jenn Sterger (photos below) claims Favre’s camp offered her camp hush money. Brett Favre’s side responds by claiming that hush money was demanded by Jenn Sterger’s side.

Now, neither side can stop talking about hush money allegations.

The Brett Favre scandal investigation has not been like the recent Jets- Ines Sainz investigation or the Ben Rothenberg matter. In those, the NFL gave a timeline, roadmap, even updates for their investigation. But in this case, Sterger stalled, repeatedly, to meet with NFL investigators, making it difficult to even estimate a potential timeline for resolution. Roger Goodell has not given guidance as well.

The latest twist came this week as Sterger’s agent, Phil Reese, said Brett Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, allegedly brought up hush money. Reese claims in October 2010 Cook asked if there was a “specific figure in mind that could make this go away.”

Cook denies that conversation occurred. In a statement issued to news, Cook says Jenn Sterger’s “manager and her lawyer have made numerous overtures to me … at least six between the two of them. Anyone can figure out why.” Cook is not clear when those alleged demands occurred.

Roger Goodell’s camp has yet to give an update this month on his investigation. Insiders claim that forensic specialists have been dispatched to analyze the trail of texts between Sterger and Favre. Sources claim that Favre has admitted to texting Sterger, but not with the suggestive texts that hit Deadspin. Allison Torres has previously told news that Sterger and Favre mutually texted back in forth, a claim Sterger’s camp denied.

NEW YORK (LALATE) – Michael Brea of “Ugly Betty” (photo above) decapitated his mother Yannick Brea today, claim police. Michael Brea according to IMDB had roles on “Ugly Betty”,”Step-Up 3-D” and even a Coca-Cola advertisement. But shortly after 1 am today, Michael Brea allegedly took his mother hostage before pulling out a samurai sword and decapitating the 53 year old resident of Brooklyn.

Yannick Brea had fought to get free when her son Michael Brea, 31, began shouting biblical passages. In the end, Michael Brea hacked apart his mother and chopped off her head. 911 callers said they heard loud screams during the attack. Others say they heard Michael Brea shouting “Repent, Repent”.

Neighbors say the mother and son lived together, were quiet, and didn’t seem to bicker. They also report that Michael Brea never exhibit any suspect characteristics of mental problems.

Police have yet to charge Brea. Michael Brea is now in police custody at Kings County Hospital where he is undergoing mental evaluation.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly defended police response. Yannick Brea’s family and friends are denouncing police handling of the case. Neighbors told the New York Daily News that officers stayed outside the door for 45 minutes as Michael Brea continued to attack his mother. Yannick’s sister Gina Bumond also claims that officers did not smash down the door; instead, police according to Bumond stood vigil outside for over 30 minutes as Yannick was murdered.
