NEW ORLEANS (LALATE) – The death of Messy Mya (Anthony Barre) is confirmed tonight; Messy Mya died after being murdered in New Orleans’ 7th Ward on Sunday. New details into the death of Messy Mya are revealed tonight as fans search for answers into this senseless murder. Mya was an aspiring musician, comic and youtube personality; on Sunday he was found dead in a pool of blood. As initially reported earlier today, Messy Mya was shot dead at the intersection of St Anthony and North Rocheblave in New Orleans’ 7th Ward.
And while no arrests have yet to be made in the Mya shooting, this is the second violent attack in the 7th Ward within days, LALATE can report.
LALATE can report that on November 9, a 30 year old resident of the 7th quarter tried to kill her neighbor. She shot her 42 year old neighbor into the chest. The location of that attempted murder was less 1/2 mile away from Sunday’s murder of Mya, LALATE can report.
While the cases may not be related, they represent a growing concern about violence among neighbors in the 7th Ward.
Mya was shot at 8pm Sunday in a siege of gun shots, say witnesses. Barre was laying on his face when police responded, reports NOLA.com. But rather that aiding the victim, one resident took pictures of Messa Mya; the person then posted them to twitter.
James Perry with the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center recently told local news about the concerns confronting the 7th Ward. FOX8 just days ago reported that the “people who depend on housing assistance are still concentrated in the same areas as they were before Hurricane Katrina, specifically the 9th Ward, the 7th Ward and parts of Gentilly.”
And yet despite the severity of Mya’s shooting, no suspects have been detained. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
