Declan Sullivan Death Shocks Notre Dame Football

SOUTH BEND (LALATE) – Declan Sullivan of Notre Dame is dead at age 20. Declan Sullivan death was confirmed by Notre Dame officials Wednesday; Sullivan was a student videotaping football practice when his scissors lift fell over in 50 mph winds.
Why did Notre Dame have Declan Sullivan up in 50 mph winds on a hydraulic lift above the football’s goalposts? Questions dominate the investigation today into Sullivan’s death, a junior from Long Grove Illinois. Weather conditions had not been good this week. On Tuesday, a major storm in the midwest had prompted school closures on Tuesday for over an hour as tornado sirens sounded.
Twenty-four hours later, Declan Sullivan was up in the air. Why?
Sullivan even tweeted shortly before his death “Gusts of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work… I guess I’ve lived long enough :-/” Thereafter, windgusts were in excess of 50 mph, reports Fanhouse. Sullivan tweets again “Holy (bleep) holy (bleep) holy (bleep) this is terrifying.”
Less than fifty minutes later, the lift collapsed and Sullivan was dead.
Memorial services for Sullivan are set for Notre Dame Basilica at 10 o’clock. University president Rev. John Jenkins issued the following statement “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts go out to the student’s family and friends and our prayers and profound sympathies are with them during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of someone so young is a terrible shock and a great sadness. Our entire community shares in the family’s grief.”
Coach Brian Kelly issued the following statement “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Declan’s family and friends. Declan was a diligent student worker in our video department and had a tremendous personality and great sense of humor. He brightened the days for all that had the privilege to work with him, and the Notre Dame football family will dearly miss him.”
